Matt Dalton

Performance opportunities related to the 300th anniversary of J.S. Bach's birth led Matt to take up the baroque trumpet in 1985, and he's been a proponent of it since.

In addition to being one of the founders of the Seattle Trumpet Consort, he has served as second trumpet of Portland Baroque Orchestra since 1988. Over the years he has performed with many other leading West coast baroque ensembles, including Seattle Baroque, American Bach Soloists, Pacific Baroque Orchestra, Benevelent Order for Music of the Baroque (B.O.M.B.), and Baroque Northwest. He has also performed with the St. Mary Chamber Orchestra in Littleton, Colorado.

Matt has a music degree from Washington State University, where his primary trumpet teacher was Gerald Webster. He has studied baroque trumpet with Fred Holmgren.

On modern trumpet, Matt has served as principal trumpet of Orchestra Seattle (1987-1998) and the Washington-Idaho Symphony. He has also performed with Northwest Chamber Orchestra, Spokane Symphony, Bellevue Philharmonic, Philharmonia Northwest, Royal Fireworks Band, Pacific Chamber Soloists, plus many other groups. Matt has also served on the staff of Midsummer Musical Retreat.
