Key Natural Features of Seavy Meadows:
- Seasonal wetland (saturated soils with standing water
in winter, dry in summer)
- Native prairie Tufted hairgrass dominates the
area. Broad shallow depressions (vernal pools) support many short-lived
native annuals. Wetter areas have frequent patches of sedges
and rushes.
- Hydric soils "Dayton" soil type is
very fine textured, has strong shrink/swell with water content,
has low permeability to water, causes low-oxygen in the rooting
zone, and is poorly suited to building and most kinds of agriculture.
