Where the magic happens

This is pretty cool - a nice slide show featuring stills from Mike Tobias' MTD shop in Kingston, NY. Speaking of MTDs, I heard back from Norm Stockton that he did indeed receive (and has been gigging regularly with) the J-Bass prototype bass from MTD, and that it kicks all kinds of a__...

Why me...?

Just back from England, where the weather was nearly the same as we are experiencing in southeastern PA today - rainy and unseasonably cool. Also fresh back from the NJ shore and my last SL Band gig for August. Looking forward to the next show in September (again near the NJ shore).

I'm not sure why Mike Tobias has decided to torture us MTD-faithful by planning to release two more amazing MTD models... but I think I will need to start saving up now... what this guy is capable of in terms of instrument construction is now just beyond normal human abilities. Check out the hollow-body "ghost piezo" option and the as-yet-unnamed "traditional" jazz-style bass (which may be offered as a USA-machine-made model to keep the price low). (sigh... why is Mike doing this to me...! :-) More details available via Summer NAMM video interviews with Mike at www.bassplayer.tv.

Mountain of Fire

Some quick updates:

Happy B-day to Chip, Skeeter, mom-mom, Jody& Kathleen.

Congrats to my neighbors on the birth of their new baby boy - that little guy is totally awesome!

Thanks to my buddy Alex for bringing home a chunk of Mount Etna for me from his recent travels. Not sure how many international laws are violated by transporting that... Apparently Alex's stop in Sicily was not planned, but became necessary due to sudden illness that befell their ship's captain (now fully recovered), and Alex made the most of his short time there. Those who are interested, and have at least a modicum of familiarity with the Italian language, may want to check out the Etna webcams.

Off to sunny ol' England soon, my next SL Band show will be shortly after that trip, August 18th at the Sand Bar.

Cheers!
