Officer UNfriendly (Part 1), Electronic Social Media Consumption, Twits, and SL Band Haps

Haruummmphhhhh.

I'm still a bit upset at a run-in that I had with a local police officer today. To make a very long story very short, a cop went out of his way to hunt me down in a parking lot and harass me a bit because I tried to call it to his attention (without using my middle finger - let's just establish that one right off the bat here :-) that he was driving over the speed limit through my neighborhood.

Now, I don't know about you, but when a cop in uniform, armed, and on duty chases me down for that, it raises a lot of questions in my mind such as:
  • does he not have anything *better* to do?
  • why is he telling me I'm "clueless" and threatening me with phrases like "I'd keep my opinions to myself if I were you!"?
  • does he realize that he is seriously eroding the trust that citizens are supposed to have in their local law enforcement?
  • where is my cell phone with the camera when I *really* need it?
  • I wonder if any of these people nearby would agree to be witnesses if I take this to court?
  • how does a guy like this pass the law enforcement psychiatric exams? I know plenty of people who are cops that aren't also a__holes...
So... I wrote a letter of complaint to the police chief of my Township. We'll see where it goes from there. I wish I'd gotten more info. on the cop, but the totally inappropriate way that he handled the entire thing left me in a state of 'micro-shock'.

Anyway, you'd better believe that I will post more about this as it develops. Protect and Serve... my ass...!!!

I've been trying to get the hang of Twitter today. I'm still not sure that I totally 'get' Twitter. I've considered setting my status as "Avoiding Twitter..." and never changing it.

Must be getting old... Actually, I think the approach stems from the 'Consume-Don't-Contribute' mentality surrounding electronic social media that I notice in my friends (and in other mid-to-late 30-somethings). What I mean is, they/we consider content on the Internet akin to content in a a magazine or newspaper - we search it, we read it, we use, but it's not for *us* to contribute to it; that's someone else's job! I've confirmed this view with several other friends, but I'm not sure if it's a regional / local or generational thing.

For example, my friends will sometimes ask me how many websites I have. I reply that there are a few (but the difficult / upfront work is already done, so it's not difficult to maintain them now): my music life and general purpose blog (you're reading it!), my wine consulting website, my wine blog, my MySpace music page, and now possibly my Twitter posts. Usually the response is something along the lines of "ha ha - you're a nerd." Then invariably those same people come back to me weeks later asking why I've not updated my blog...!

Anyway - enough yappin' - let's boogie!
SL Band hits the Flying Pig in Malvern, PA on Dec. 21. Then I'm off to FL / Key West for some nice family time and relaxation.

So, if I don't manage to post between now and the holidays - have a safe and happy time, and remember to add a little gratitude to everything that you do this holiday season.

Cheers!

Tunage and Happy Birthday Jim

Had a great, fun gig at Triumph last night. Now in full Holiday Mode as we prep the house for a holiday party tonight (with some nice Banfi Rosso di Montalcino on tap, as well as Delirium Tremens and a keg of Sierra Nevada's Celebration, the beer all courtesy of a generous contribution from the Ciaciaks). Should be a very good time!

My ongoing recording experiments also fared well last night, as we captured another set for posterity at Triumph. A few cringe-inducing moments for me on my performance of some of the newer material. We've been playing around with a cover of the The Doors' "LA Woman" which we unleashed for the first time as a trio last night - fittingly on the anniversary of Jim Morrison's birthday (Dec. 8); spookily, we did not know that it was his birthday yesterday when we debuted the song in our setlist.... Anyway, the results are available on my MySpace page for your pleasure (amusement?).

Cheers!

Blahg Thoughts

I'm happy to report that the recordings we made (using the handy-dandy H2) at Triumph Brewery in New Hope turned out much better than I'd expected. We're playing Triumph again this coming weekend, and I hope to record a set of that performance as well, in the hopes that between the two shows we will have enough decent recordings to offer a short live album via download. Sample tunes from the first show are available on my MySpace page or directly at this link.

My wine blog has undergone a fairly extensive make-over as I've tried to enter into the Blogosphere proper (I've added the FeedBurner post feed to bottom of this blog so you can easily check out the posts). Please pay it a visit, and if you like it then subscribe, vote for it, toast one of my stories on WineLifeToday.com, and/or join the MyBlogLog community.

As part of the wine blog, I've also created an on-line Amazon.com store of wine books and accessories that I've used and can recommend.

Cheers!
