Baby Update: Ker's Blog

Hi all.

Ker has a blog up & running and is detailing our early days of life with the new arrival.

You can check it out here:

Now back to Joe's regularly scheduled music-related blog, already in-progress but on semi-hiatus during "baby weeks."

Cheers!

Baby Update

Poor little thing is not sucking her milk correctly, so she's been miserable and has lost a pound!

We have moved to Plan B (lactation consultant, breast pump, bottle feeding, supplementing with formula) and things are already looking up!

Baby Watch: Baby has NOT arrived yet

Ker's water broke late Thurs. night.

Contractions have been progressing and so far all tests / signs / indications / astral charts / tea leaf readings show that everything is 100% normal. It's just slow-going.

It's just not showtime for that little bundle o' joy yet!

Will try to keep things as up-to-date as possible.

Cheers!

Maiden NJ (A Clinic in the Art of Sonic A__-Kicking)

Know what kicks all kinds of a__?

Having your brother take you to the Iron Maiden concert at the Meadowlands for your birthday.

That kicks a__ because Maiden themselves kick so much a__. Which is the reason, I think, behind their penchant to continuously tour all manner of countries in their near-marathon stints; they kick so much a__ that in order to afford all of the a__ that they must kick, they have to travel to countries where a__ is cheaper in relation to the GBP. I.e., "outsourced a__-kicking," if you will.

Adding even more "a__-kicking-ness" was our proximity to the stage from the VIP GA section. I comfortably had my a__ totally kicked by Maiden and had the option of moving from nearly directly at stage-front to a more sound- and visuals-friendly spot about 30 feet back.

And it TOTALLY RULED. Highly recommended from me if you're in need of one of the most rawk-ing b-day gifts ever, and you have a hankering to have your a__-kicked by masters of the metal form.

While on stage last night, Maiden announced that they are extending their sell-out Somewhere Back In Time tour to include more dates in the U.S. So you still have a chance to witness the full stage show from the World Slavery Tour, basking in the glory of their all-80s set-list, and cowering under the shadow of the 15-foot tall Cyborg Eddie. Everything about this show for me was just about perfect: the classic Maiden setlist, the 80s throw-back stage set-up, the fact that Maiden flies (and pilots!) their own 757 jet airplane to each of the shows, and seeing bassist Steve Harris (who I realized had a bigger influence on my playing than I would have guessed) still playing amazingly well.

I was amazed at how much negative, grade-school-mentality teasing I received when I told people that I was going to this show, and that I couldn't wait to see it. Comments like "are they still alive?" and "yeah, you and what, like 15 other people?" show just how low under the radar this band flies in the U.S. Never mind that they sold out the NJ arena in 2 hours, or that their last album was a huge hit with fans and critics alike and proved they are more than just viable, they're making vital prog-metal music this late into their careers.

Sad, really.

I leave you with a pic my bro snapped during The Trooper (a performance that - guess what! - kicked all kinds of a__):

Cheers (& Up The Irons)!

Uhm... eeerrrrghhh... where's my coffee.....

Ugh... working on an issue for my day job after 4 hours of sleep (and 1 too many beers, probably).

SL Band show at Jitters last night was Très divertissant, as they say (well, as they say in France, anyway). Next up for me - is the birth of our daughter! After that, I'll be re-joining the lads in the SL Band for a show at the Flying Pig (circumstances permitting, of course) on April 18.

After 2 weeks, the MTD BE is going strong and now over 60 members. I'm working on getting the major bass retailers to offer discounts to our members (which is working out well so far).

Bonus money for my day job came in, and it's a nice princely sum (by my standards, anyway). After investing a hefty percentage of it, I put a small amount towards updating my work wardrobe (which consists of nice stuff but 10+ years old in some cases!), purchasing baby items, as well as some workout equipment that Ker & I have been wanting for the basement "gym" - with enough left over for me to treat myself to a b-day present (see inset pic). Should be in my possession in a few short days, along with a gig bag and a (badly needed) new strap.

Hope life is treating you all well. Cheers!

Why the Internet Kicks All Kinds of A__

You know what's really awesome?

The Global Interweb.

That's the one with e-mail, right?

Ok, maybe I am a tad late to the party in pointing that out. But you gotta admit, it's pretty friggin' awesome when in 1 week you can mobilize over fifty people worldwide that are into MTD Basses and get them assembled into one virtual place.

MTD BE is now at over 50 members just 1 week into its precious little life! And there are some serious, serious players in the membership lineup - for example, we've got Mike Dimin, whose solo bass playing is not only inspiring, but extremely influential among the bass elite. As far as I'm concerned, MTD BE is not just legit, it has arrived. We've got Mike Dimin for f--k's sake! Yeeeeaaaaah!

I've been celebrating by saying "f--k yeah!" a lot, and by spending way too much time on the Internet.

In other news: the baby has not yet arrived, but we're expecting her any week now! Also, the next SL Band show with yours truly will be next weekend (March 7) at that most venerable of West Chester PA establishments, Jitters. Steve L. has posted his new FREE on-line compilation album, Banged-Up Classics. Surf on over to www.SteveLiberace.com and get yourself some tunes!

Cheers!
