Jenkins" Subject: [INDIGO] HMS AWYDDUS: hel meddyliau NRP: One of Josh's recent posts for PROMETHEUS inspired this little piece. LCDR Talon Rand of USS PROMETHEUS is Dalriadan by birth and serving in the UFP Star Fleet. This is a reverse angle and hopefully gives some insight into the mind of one of out opponents in this war. However much was, as people playing Star Fleet officers think that our cause is always just and that we are the "good guy," there will always be someone with a different point of view. RP: FMD: 7.0100 Location: Royal Dalriadan Navy Dreadnought ZEALOUS (HMS AWYDDUS) Finan Mac Conmara didn't understand the Federation and he didn't want to. He had been born on Zeta Sagittarii to human parents from Alpha Centauri, but he'd never considered himself a Federation citizen. His parents had fled intollerance for their beliefs and scientific research and found a home on the far rim of the Federation on a colony world. They were not alone in their new home, however. Amoung the sparse Federation colonists were the Dalriada, humans from an alliance founded by Terrans who had somehow made their way to the stars millenia before the first recorded human spaceflight. His parents had even named their only child after a close Dalriadan friend. When Finan's parents had been killed in a laboratory accident a year after his birth, the friend, Finan Mac Conmara, had adopted the boy and raised him as his own son. The elderly Dalriadan had lost his own wife and a son and infant daughter to a shuttle accident forty years before and loved the child deeply. He took the boy to Daear (the name means "Earth"), the central world in the Dalriadan Alliance, what the Terrans so ignorantly referred to as "Dalriada Prime." On Daear, Finan grew into adulthood and joined the Royal Dalriadan Navy to serve his people and defend his new homeland from the tyrannical Federation which was sending ever more colonists to occupy worlds near their border with Dalriadan space. Finan didn't understand why his leaders were being so tolerant of the Federation. Their intentions were clear enough. As if their attempt to monopolize trade in the sector by the massive construction of new areas of their Starbase OMEGA was not indication enough, the massive military build up by the United Federation of Planet's INDIGO Fleet was a plain indication that they intended to conquer and annex the Dalriadan Alliance. They'd even gone so far as to offer Alliance member worlds membership in their own Federation in an effort to undermine political stability in the region. The Federation doctrines of peaceful coexistance and non-interference were laughable in the face of their actions. There were Dalriada who wanted the Federation gone for financial reasons or to maintain their political power. Finan wanted them gone because he hated everything they stood for and because he blamed them for his parents death far from their home in a ramshackle laboratory where they should never have been forced to work. The Federation would have seen Finan live out his life as a retarded man with an IQ of barely 40. By his parents sacrifice, he was now a genius with an IQ bordering 200. Some might have said that revenge should be beneath a person of Finan's abililties, but Finan himself did not think in those terms. He thought that one of his abilities should be better than anyone else at seeing that justice was done. Now, he was on a Dalriadan warship en route to the Terebellum system with a mission to capture or destroy Starbase OMEGA. For the first time in a long time, he felt a smile form on his face. NRPG: I'm using Welsh for ship names, but still using HMS (His Magesty's ship), which would be something like LEM (llong ei mawr.hydi) in Welsh. If anyone actually understands Welsh, feel free to offer the correct version, since I doubt that I've gotten it correct just reading pieces of the dictionary's grammer sections.
