It was a beautiful memorial, and yet it seemed so inadequate in expressing what had been lost. She had never known many of those whose names were so carefully inscribed. She would never know them -- their joys, their sorrows, their triumphs or their failures. They were now just a name on a wall. The young ensign moved closer, reaching out to touch the name of a pilot she had known. For a brief moment she held his image in her mind. She could see his short, red hair move as if blown by an unseen wind as his sea green eyes sparkled with humour. He had been so kind during her first week on the station, making her laugh when she wanted to cry from homesickness. The image faded as she touched the cold hard stone, and her eyes filled with unshed tears. "I will never forget you," she whispered to the dead pilot. "The stars will sign your name until the last glimmer of light winks out." "Someone you knew?" a deep voicee inquired gently. Startled, Galia sneezed and quickly wiped the tears from her eyes. "It is our duty to remember what they have done for us, Ensign." the voice continued. As she turned she felt an unpleasant sensation in her sinuses. She sneezed again. "Sorry, sir." It was Commander Greyclaw. The Caitian commander looked amused more than anything. Much to her dismay, she continued to sneeze. "Ensign, are you alright?" He asked, concern mounting. "Yes , sir. I'm sure it's a nothing ." "Ensign! Report to sickbay immediately!" "Really, sir. I'm sure it's nothing ." "Ensign, that's an order. I can't afford to have any more pilots down." "Yes sir ." Galia hurried away sneezing, as the commander watched her. Scene: Sick Bay Galia peered nervously through the door to sickbay. Her sneezing had stopped serveral minutes before, but she had been ordered to sickbay. Her eyes and nose were red-rimmed from the sneezing fit, and a gigantic Klingon sat at the desk snarling at the data on the PADD before him. He looked up as she approached. "Well?" "Um, Ensign Galia Kollet reporting to sickbay as ordered, sir." she muttered. "Are you a nurse? You don't look like a nurse." "Um, no sir." "A doctor? An orderly? What? Speak up, girl!" "Um, never mind, sir. I'm feeling much better now, thanks." She turned and hurried out the door before he could say anything. "Damn flakey pilots." Toc muttered as he turned back to the work at hand. Respectfully submitted Ensign Galia Kollett NRPG: See, Wendon, I haven't fallen off the end of the planet (much as I would have liked to last week, but we won't go there). Yes, I know what's wrong with Galia (but she doesn't), it's not fatal, it can't interfere with her while she's in her fighter, and I'm not telling .... ------------------------------------------------------- Ensign Saja Ricks COU USS Leviathan Ensign Galia Kollett SB ALIGHIER: NC-17 Ensign Allison Baker CEO USS Bearcat "One NT box from the dark lord on his throne in the land of Redmond where the shadows lie" ------------------------------------------------------- This message sent by an official member of the Dante Expeditionary Force Are you also posting your messages to the newsgroup?!!!
