The Federation starbase bearing the designation DS-230 was a mere light year away. He had ordered his fleet back to this point to prepare for their eventual departure from the Dante System. Yet all he could feel was disappointment. As a junior Captain, he had been selected for this throwaway mission with some disdain. His commanders could have cared less whether he was successful or not. They merely wanted to produce a "crisis" to which Starfleet would be forced to respond. But Rachus saw himself as a Admiral. Maybe not yet, but soon. He had the vision of an Admiral. His mother had told him as much when he was very young and had kept telling him throughout his career in the Royal Dalriadan Navy. So it was a source of bitter frustration that he had been unable to destroy this backwater starbase which even his own commanders cared little about. Why was he contantly thwarted in his attempts to get ahead? He began to suspect some of his own troops were conspiring against him. The final insult would come a few hours later when the Royal Dalriadan Military Commander would order him out of the system and relieve him of command for losing so many ships in the "irrelevant" invasion of the Dante System. FMD 6.1055 Scene: Observation Lounge Yssar replayed the message from his aunt for the third time that day. He missed nothing about Cait -- he barely remembered the planet -- but he suddenly realized how much he missed his family. His brother Redfang had been involved in a shootout with an organized criminal gang in Chicago, and had received a medal of bravery for his actions. Bristleback had been promoted to department head in his little corner of the retail sales world. And their uncle Swiftlight had gone into semi-retirement from Starfleet and had purchased a vacation property on Risa. Yssar missed them all dearly, but he knew his work here in the Dante System was far more important than any sentimental journeys he might wish to take. Case in point, as his commbadge chirped: [Commander Yssar to the Command Center. The Dalriada are on the move!] A minute later, when he walked into the Command Center, way too many of his staff were smiling. Something strange was going on. "Did I miss a joke, Lieutenant Roebuck?" he asked his CEO, whose Vulcan features betrayed a hint of merriment too. "The Dalriada are jumping to hyperspace," he explained. "They're leaving." Yssar was not as easily amused. "Track their destination. Fire a probe to follow their trail if you need to!" Greyclaw was worried. He had an inkling as to where the Dalriadan fleet was headed, and it was not good news. "Probe away!" called Ensign Larrimer from her Science console. "If the jamming has let up, get word to SB OMEGA," Yssar called. "Burst my reports from the last few days, and add an update with data from that probe." Yssar looked at Ensign Larrimer again, realizing that he needed to call a meeting with her. But that matter could wait until later -- at least until Lieutenant K'Ath arrived. Yssar wanted to meet with Saevok, Windstar, and Larrimer to ensure that everyone was happy with the shifts in responsibility. <<>> The Dalriada have left. Let us return to normalcy (a word courtesy of Warren G. Harding). Yoni: Great post! Eric: I think everything is on track according to your plan. Josh: Don't worry, Yssar knows Miller is injured. He'll try to visit soon... and if I don't write him doing it, feel free to write it yourself! John L.: You had me believing the surgery was real! Wendon and Anna: Thanks for keeping things moving during the Fleet Mission.
