All current information seemed to be leading to the fact that ALIGHIERI was to be the next victim of the war with the Dalriada. Engineering was busy fortifying SIF around the ship as well as getting all the fighters in top notch condition, and had been doing an excellent job. Science was busy trying to devise better ways to defend against the Dalriadan weapons to afford more protection to the station, and possibly the fleet in the future. Tao walked around Ops, coordinating the preparations from the central command center for ALIGHIERI. As he was checking on the Science department, the door to CDR Yssar's ready room slid open and the CO stepped out into the command center. "Mr. Windstar, report," he commanded, though more for formality than anything. "Engineering has intensified the SIF's by 30%. All combat shuttles have been equipped with the modified docking clamps and are being loaded with probes as we speak. The YORKTOWN has been repaired in record time by the combined efforts of the engineering staffs from the YORKTOWN and ALIGHIERI. And Science has remodulated the station's shields so that we now have metaphasic shielding as well for added protection against the effects of the xray lasers. I fugured if the metaphasic shields can protect a starship from the effects of a sun's corona, then they might give the station a bit more protection as well," reported Tao. "Good work. We've come a long way in a short amount of time." Yssar looked around and noticed the efficient way his staff were doing their jobs. He was very proud of his staff and ALIGHIERI. They had not been here long, but the staff had come together quickly and melded into a very effective unit. That point had been a big reason for the excellent response to the Dalriadan threat. Tao interrupted Greyclaw's musings with a question, bringing the CO back to the present. "Sir, I was wondering if we shouldn't evacuate all non-essential personell to the planet's surface, just in case the attack goes worse than expected. I have been doing the calculations and we could evacuate all civilians and non-essential personell within two hours, tops." Yssar considered the idea. "Agreed. Coordinate things with LCDR Basek and LMAJ Kingston. I know the marines are busy, but they will have to help provide a safe haven for our civilians until the battle is over." ****************************** FMD: 5.1200 Scene: Ops ****************************** LMAJ Kingston's face appeared on the viewscreen. [You wanted to talk to me, Tao?] "Yes, Michael. We need to evacuate all civilian and non-essential personell to the planet's surface before the Dalriada attack. LCDR Basek has been in contact with the Huladian officials and they have agreed to provide several buildings to house the displaced individuals from ALIGHIERI and the YORKTOWN. We'll need help from your marines to ensure the refugees are safe within the Holy City." Kingston nodded his head in understanding. [We've ferreted out the Kraggons who attacked Necessity, so I don't forsee any problems from them in the near future. We should be able to assist in the evacuation. We also wish you all luck up there and will be ready to join the fray at a moment's notice.] Tao knew the marines had their hands full and appreciated Kingston's readiness to help. "Good. You can expect the first wave of personell within the hour. Windstar out." The screen went blank as the transmission ended. Tao turned to LCDR Basek and said, "Let's get on with the evacuation. We haven't a moment to spare." Ariana shook her head in agreement as the two entered the turbolift and left the command center. ************************* FMD: 5.1400 Scene: Shuttle bay ************************* The last of the evacuees were being boarded on the transport shuttle as Tao and Ariana watched the progress. The evacuation had been orderly and quick, with many of the civilians helping out where ever they could. Tao was impressed by the way everyone had pitched in to help, and was very proud of the staion's community. Ethan walked over to him and dropped his bags on the floor. "I don't want to leave, Tao. We're just getting to know each other and now I may never see you again. I want to stay here and help protect the station." Tao smiled at the brave young man. "Ethan, I'll feel much better if I know you are safe on Hulad. And don't worry, we'll see each other real soon. I promise." "But who is going to watch over you? I could keep an eye on you and make sure you don't get hurt," the boy argued. "I'll keep an eye on him and keep him safe," said Ariana, putting a hand on the boy's shoulder. "He'll be safe with me. " Tao took the yopung man by the shoulders and said, "Now by the time you get back, I expect a full report on the Huladians. Get to know them the best you can. They are our friends and maybe you can help us learn more about their culture." Tao felt giving the young amn something to do would ease the transition a little. Ethan straightened his back and responded, "I'll do my best, sir. You can count on me." Tao gave Ethan a long hug, then escorted him to the waiting shuttle. "Give LMAJ Kingston my regards and do everything he tells you to do," Tao said as the shuttle doors closed. They watched the shuttle power its engines and lift off, exiting the bay doors enroute to Hulad. After the shuttle cleared the doors, Tao and Ariana turned and made their way back to the command center. NRPG: David: Thought I'd role play the evacuation a little. Figured it made sense to evacuate all non-essential personell. All: feel free to add to the RP of the evacuation.
