The plan for the docking latches which has been worked out by Windstar and Roebuck seemed to work very well. Merlin was statisfied. The computer ran some additional accident scenarios and he had reviewed them minutes before. The probes couldn't explode too early, because they added an activation mode. The only problem might be when the latches doesn't open. In that case the shuttle would have an additional engine at a point where none was planned. The hull wasn't constructed to stand for such stress. They simply would break. To avoid this his engineers added little explosives where the latches were added to the shuttle hull for the pilots safty. With this new parameters the simulations ran statisfying and Merlin was pleased. He headed over to Ensign Korns team when he saw a face on the flight deck, he didn't expect to see. "Hey, Cort, what are you doing here?" "Ahhhh....the doc order'd m' not t' ''do anything strenous.''" he imatated the voice. "LeBeau." Merlin made a face. "What did you do?" <> After their talk Merlin turned around and went over to Korn. "Mr. Korn, I want to see you tomorrow morning in my office. With your team." he said silent enough that only Korn could hear him but loud enough that Korn could hear his anger. ----------------- FMD 5.0857 Roebuck's office ----------------- Merlin entered his office and looked around. He hasn't been here since....he didn't know when he entered last time. It was just too long ago. He took a glass of orange juice and sat at his desk, which was filled by endless PADDs. He took some and viewed over. Most of them were reports he had to sign. He sighed. It would take weeks to catch this up. There were also some failure reports, but no main systems. This had to wait. Just now he became aware how stressy this situation was and what they did in the last days. He hadn't much time to think about their situation up to know. He just invented, developed, tested and installed a huge amount of systems, fixed shuttles and a starship. But that was nothing when he thought of the things which would have to come. If the Dalradian would attack the BATRON his staff had to do a lot of more overtime. But if the BATRON and the YORKTOWN weren't able to stop the enemy fleet, the station would be in a even worse status. It would be even worse as when they reactivated. The door chime got him back to reality. "Come" The door slipped open and Ensign Korn and his team entered the room. They stood to attention. "Repair team 3 reporting as ordered." Merlin took slowly his glass of orange juice, nipped two times and put it back to the desk. Then he leaned back in his chair. "Mr. Korn, can you tell me what I ordered regarding to sick bay." "All non-repair actions have to be cleared by you, sir." Roebuck waited a moment and gave the Ensign the chance to complete his orders. "Has any member of your team to add something?" CPO Klinj, an andorian overkeen engineer just from the Academy raised his voice. "Sir, you also ordered to be noticed of any repair immediatly, sir." The CEO saw the anger growing in the face of Korn. "I leave it up to you to show your teammate what comradship means. But he is right. This gives me a riddle, which you can help me to solve. Why didn't you inform me, Korn?" "Sir, Dr. LeBeau ordered me to come to sick bay without telling any reason. He sounded very angry, so I decided to follow his request without consulting you." "Well, Korn, you have usually no problem to ignore orders by superiors, even me or Chief Tiger. Why didn't you overide the Doc followed my order instead of running to a medician." "Sir, we made a dicovery which..." "Did you know which discovery you were going to make when you headed off?" "No, sir." Merlin stood up. "Korn, you made to much trouble. This means a permanent reprimand in your file. I'll let it pass by CMDR Yssar today. For the rest of your team, be warned: If this happens again you will be court martialed. You are lucky that I need any engineer. If not you'll sit in the brig now. Dismissed." "Sir, we found a virus in a biobed." It was Korn. "You did what?" "We found a Kraggon virus in a biobed." "Why didn't you tell IMMEDIATLY? Darn it, Korn. You are a specialist in getting into trouble." Merlin tapped at his commbadge. "Roebuck to all. Prepare for a computer core failure. All commanding officers and department heads to observation lounge immediatly. Roebuck out" "Roebuck to engineering teams 7 and 8, get immediatly to sick bay and analyse ALL computer systems there . Team 3 will introduce you. If you finished go on with chechking ALL computer systems on the station. Roebuck out. Mr. Korn, you are with me. The rest of you team gets to sick bay immediatly." Merlin left his office with the poor ensign in toe. ------------------ 5 minutes later observation lounge ------------------ The two engineers stood in front of the lounge, when Merlin warned Korn not to make any mistakes inside. With a look at him he ensured that the ensign knew that he won't hesitate to transfer him to the recycling department when he didn't show his qualifactions. Then they entered the lounge and saw all officers present, including Mirtox. Roebuck knew that this meeting would show a mistake made by his engineers and he didn't doubt that the commodore won't let pass this chance by to give him the revenge for the last meeting. "Gentlemen, thanks for coming so fast." They took two seates and Korn began to tapp to the controls at his place. "We have a serious problem. Mr Korn..." he nodded to the ensign " and his team found a Kraggon virus in a biobed. We currently don't know neither how they transfered it to the biobed nor if other systems are involved. Maybe Doctor LeBeau can answer the first question." In his last sentence his anger about the uncleared repair was heard. The CEO nodded to the CMO. <> While LeBeau's report Korn finished his preparations. When the doc had finished Merlin looked at Korn who began to explain the virus. "As you can see the virus might also be transfered to other systems and might be mutated. I think there is no need to tell you what will happen if any system fails." Merlin paused a moment. "I hereby request all personal which has some experience in computer sciences to be transferred to engineering until this situation is solved." ---------------- FMD 5.1400 suttle bay 4 ---------------- "Then let's go." Windstar said and nodded to LCDR Basek who made her way alone to the OPS. Merlin and Tao made their way to the engineering holodeck, while the CEO told his first idea. "We have still the problem to protect the station against the x-ray pulse lasers. In the 20th century people used lead to protect themselves against x-rays. Well, we can't protect the whole station by creating a large ball. We doesn't simply have the ressources. But we can protect several systems and some special rooms with such a belt. So we could save at least life support and the crew. Before you tell: I know that the missiles have a stronge x-ray-radiation than they used in 20th century. But what if we enhance the lead's protection ability?" Merlin saw the doubt in Tao's eyes. "The other way would be to protect them by reconfiguring portable shield generators to create metaphasic shields." << What do you think, Mike? If you don't clear that, I have some other ideas ...
