Necessity. Reports from ALIGHIERI were that the Dalriada had indeed invaded the system and delivered significant damage to the Air Wing and the station itself. But the Dalriada fleet just left the same way it arrived... Major Kingston was accompanying Lieutenant Major Klingshirn, Commander, A/1/135, as the two officers were walking through the streets, making sure the ALIGHIERI civilians that were uprooted pending a potential Dalriadan attack, which was a wise move in the sense to get any non-combatants out of harm's way. Yet, the Kraggon presence, albeit less now, can make any civilian wary of travelling in this system, yet alone Hulad. [Bolero to Major Klingshirn] Gunnery Sergeant Javier Bolero called over the commbadge. "Klingshirn here," Pamela replied. [Ma'am an altercation is happening at the local tavern.] "This is Major Kingston, Gunny; we're on our way." Michael interjected. Scene: Huladian Tavern Fists and shreds of clothing and Starfleet uniforms were strewn about the establishment as two civilians were exchanging blows with two junior enlisted Marines. Gunny Bolero saw the Senior Officers and some of the judiciary of Hulad enter the tavern and called the Marines who were there to attention. The Marines sttod ramrod straight, while the civilians and the Huladians were standing, wondering what was going on. "What in the hell is going on here???" Kingston hollered. "Sir, I'm Jansei Kirea..." one of the ALIGHIERI civilian combatans, a Bajoran, answered. "All my friend and I wanted was some lunch when these two behemoths," he jabbed a thumb to the two Marines at attention, "barreled in and demanded that they be served immediately. I tried to explain that we were here prior to their arrival, but they completely ignored me...I guess it got a bit uglier as I pressed my case to them." "No need to go on, Mr. Jansei." Michael replied. Turning to the two Marines..."You two, my office, now!" "SIR AYE SIR!" the Marines answered. FMD: 6.1230 Scene: XO's office. "I don't know what in the world you two were trying to pull back there." Michael started to speak. "I read the initial report and your side of the altercation...and I am not impressed. How long have you been in the Corps?" "SIR, EIGHT MONTHS SIR!" Lance Corporal James Devionei answered first "SIR FOUR MONTHS EIGHT DAYS SIR!" Private First Class Triam Klanset answered next. "First of all, one 'sir' will suffice." Michael continued. "And second, Basic Training should have taught you several things about being Marines, in addition to the Combat Arms training. There's what's called values...I even learned it when I went through Basic Training a long time ago. Ideals such as Respect, Courage, Honor, Integrity, Loyalty, Duty, and Selfless Service...I emphasize Respect, Honor, and Integrity to you both. Just because you are recent graduates from Parris Island does not give you the idea that you are some sort of hotshots. That attitude gets you sent home in a pine box with a Purple Heart attached to it. Is that clear?" "YES SIR!" the two echoed in unison. "I hope so. This will be noted in your temporary file as to such time I or Colonel Greene see fit to remove it. Dismissed." As the two left the office, Lieutenant T'Lan entered with a PADD. "Sir, here is the reports on the Dalriada movements and the damage to ALIGHIERI." she spoke. "Thank you, Lieutenant. That's all. I need to talk to the old man..." Michael replied. "If I may say so, Major, I believe that statement is in error since you are the eldest on the entire planet..." T'Lan un-Vulcanly commented. Michael smiled. "Lieutenant, I'm the second oldest in the entire INDIGO Fleet." Scene: CO's Office FMD: 6.1445 "What's the situation, X?" Colonel Greene asked. "Sir, the Dalriada dropped by to pay a little visit to ALIGHIERI and BatRon 2." Michael began his brief. "The 716th fared well against the X-Ray lasers those yahoos fired, but with substantial losses to the squadrons. MOBILE was also destroyed in the counterattack." "So much blood.." "Yes, sir..." "Any idea where the Dalriada might be heading?" Greene asked. "Initial reports and the latest from the rumor mill say they're gunning for OMEGA.." "Indeed...what's the word from the civilians?" "There was an altercation earlier between two Marines and a couple civilians at the tavern..." "Yes, yes, I read the report...go on." "Sir, I think that the locals and the evacuees are getting restless and concerned for the ones left behind on ALIGHIERI." "Any indication of any further attacks?" "None from this end, boss." "Good, coordinate with the Huladians and ALIGHIERI to shuttle the civilians back to the base." "Aye sir." Michael stood and exited the CO's office. Scene: Operations Center FMD: 6.1508 "Lieutenant, patch me through to ALIGHIERI and Commander Commander Windstar." "Aye sir..." the Lieutenant replied as Ethan walked to Michael.. "Hi Major..." Ethan smiled "Ethan, good to see you. Majoe Evanston was telling me this morning that you've been a big help today." "She's been teaching me all about the patrols that you do down here and even showed me one of the AFV's I didn't go in it, she said that wasn't allowed." "I'm glad you understand..." Tao's face appeared on the screen. He smiled and greeted the marine first officer. [Michael, what can I do for you?] he asked, hoping there wasn't more trouble brewing on the planet's surface. "I heard about the Dalriada pulling up stakes and heading out. Rumor here has it they're heading for OMEGA." Tao frowned slightly at the thought. [That's what the preliminary data from the probe seems to indicate. For now, though, we seem to be in the clear.] Michael inclined his head at the news. "There are quite a few civilians and family members who want to know when they can return to the station. I suspect the Huladians are also wondering the same thing. They have been extremely gracious during this crisis but I think they are ready to get their lives back to normal." Tao shook his head in understanding, realizing that for many of the Huladians, this had been their first contact with the Federation citizens from the station, as well as the first time many of the civilians aboard the station had met the Huladians. [Tell Kythan and the other leaders that we can begin shuttling the civilians back to the station tomorrow, and we thank them for their assistance.] "Will do, Tao.", Michael replied. "By the way, there is someone here who wants to say hello. He's been a big help down here." Michael Kingston's face was replaced by that of Tao's newly adopted son, Ethan Salinger. The young boy's green eyes sparkled as he smiled at Tao."I'm glad to see you're alright, Tao. Were any of my things damaged in the attack?" Tao could hear the beginnings of puberty setting in as Ethan spoke. Tao made a mental note to himself to read up on human adolescence at the next opportunity to prepare himself for what may lie ahead. [Our quarters suffered some minor damage but it should be repaired by the time you arrive tomorrow. Ask LMAJ Kingston to put you on the first shuttle home, alright?] said Tao to his charge. "OK. I have to go help the marines to spread the word about everyone going home, so I'll have to go for now. See you tomorrow.", Ethan called back as he left the range of the monitor on his end. Michael Kingston came back into view. "Pretty gung-ho kid you have there, Tao. Bet he'll make a fine Starfleet Officer someday. I guess I'll talk to you again tomorrow. Until then, good luck with the repairs. Kingston out." Scene: Landing Pad 5 FMD: 7.0600 Ethan and Michael stood next to each other as the first shuttle arrived on the pad. Tao's son didn't want to leave such an exciting place as Ft. Necessity, but he did want to see Tao again. "Ethan before you go, there's something I want to give to you." Michael handed him a small box. Ethan opened it, revealing a pair of single pips. "You might be weraing those someday, but it's up to you, alright." Michael said. "Yes, sir. Thank you Major." Ethan smiled and headed for the shuttle, taking him back to ALIGHIERI. ---------- NRPG: Mike N.: Ethan's on his way back Submitted, Paul V. Menz LTM Michael W. Kingston XO, 1/135th Marines, Ft.
