Necessity The view was a complete opposite from what had taken place a few days ago. Foward OPS was nearly demolished in the attack that Ryshert had commenced on the Fort; now it was for the most part fully operational, thanks to the efforts of the 451st Support Batallion's Detachment 2, and the Engineering Section of the Starbase. Michael had suggested that a company could have been attached to the Base itself, but Commander Yssar shot that down in a heartbeat, keeping the full Batallion on the planet. Still, for the past 36 hours, it was rather peaceful; no contacts of any sort, save for the patrols that B Company were conducting, since it was their rotation for the next three days. Replacements for the Marines that had lost their lives in the attack were arriving today, bringing the Batallion to full strength, albeit only 1000 Marines in the first place; that was the only significant thing happening today. This gave some of the Marines that were not on actual duty to rest, repair their AFV's, and get some needed down time at the O-Club, the NCO Club, or even in the Barracks and holosuites... ....or so the XO thought... "Major, incoming transmission from ALIGHIERI." LTM Evanston stated from her station. "It's Commander Windstar." "Very well, I'll take it on my office." Michael replied. Scene: XO's office FMD: 5.1200 "Computer, relay transmission to this terminal; Authorization Kingston-1-3-Kilo-Omicron." The Starbase's XO appeared "You wanted to talk to me, Tao?" Michael greeted. [Yes, Michael. We need to evacuate all civilian and non-essential personell to the planet's surface before the Dalriada attack. LCDR Basek has been in contact with the Huladian officials and they have agreed to provide several buildings to house the displaced individuals from ALIGHIERI and the YORKTOWN. We'll need help from your marines to ensure the refugees are safe within the Holy City.] Kingston nodded his head in understanding. "We've ferreted out the Kraggons who attacked Necessity, so I don't forsee any problems from them in the near future. We should be able to assist in the evacuation. We also wish you all luck up there and will be ready to join the fray at a moment's notice." Tao knew the marines had their hands full and appreciated Kingston's readiness to help. [Good. You can expect the first wave of personell within the hour. Windstar out.] The screen went blank as the transmission ended. Michael lit up a cigarette. He keyed up a console that had the locations of where the evacuees were to be housed, but would that be enough? The Huladians were gracious to set up several of their inns and hotels as temporary shelters; thank God that it wasn't during the Huladians annual Festival else there would definitely be some significant traumas arising from the Huladian government. Michael walked out of his office. "T'Lan, keep me informed of any unusual contacts, no matter how insignificant or illogical. Major Evanston, contact A Company and have Major Klingshirn and First Sergeant San Carlos meet me in the Situation Center in 15 minutes." "Yes, sir," both replied. Scene: Situation Center FMD 5.1215 "Ok, check this out." Michael started. "Word from ALIGHIERI is that they're sending the civilian personnel to Hulad within the hour. The locals are providing several inns and hotels as temporary shelter until the situation blows over on the station. Your job is to see to the safety of the civilians and to keep security within the Holy City while they're there." "Will there be enough beds for the civies, sir?" Pamela Klingshirn, CO, A/1/135 asked. "We're not sure of that. How many emergency shelters are available here on the Fort?" Kingston answered. "45, Senor." First Sergeant Alejandro San Carlos, also of A/1/135, replied, "and in good condition, capable of housing 4 people." "I want those available if there are too few beds, Top." "Understood, sir." Pamela stated. "We'll be ready in 30 minutes." "Good. Then let's get busy." Scene: Outside the Holy City. FMD: 6.1420 A Company was handling the transfer of the evacuees from the shuttles to the shelters in the City with such efficiency that even amazed the Batallion XO and CO, who were conversing with the leaders of the Holy City... "Major, there is someone who wants to talk to you." SSgt. Marco Liotta, one of the shuttle's crew, was escorting a young man to where the 1/135 Command Group was standing. "Hi, Major Kingston, I'm Ethan. Tao sends his greetings and he said I was to do what you said." the young lad introduced himself. Michael was suprised that Tao had sent someone to meet him...curious, the Marine XO thought. "Hello, Ethan," Michael introduced himself. "This is Colonel Greene, my boss, and this is Kythan, the leader of the Huladians." "Hi there." Ethan smiled, even though he missed Tao tremendously already. "I hope that I can help in any way." "Sure, Ethan." Colonel Greene replied. "See those Marines over there?" he pointed to the two NCO's that were processing the evacuees into the shelters. "Yes?" Ethan answered. "You can help them with the processing of your friends from the base." Michael added. "I can do that. Thanks!" Ethan felt like he was a big part of the relief effort. FMD: 5.1535 Scene: Command Center, Ft. Necessity At long last, the evacuees were housed in the shelters that the Huladians set up, in addition to approximately 10 Starfleet Mobile Shelters within the Fort's perimeter. Michael was looking at the reports that were filtering in from various sections from A Company... "What's on your mind, X?" Colonel Greene stepped in. "We have about 5 to 6 thousand civilans from ALIGHIERI in shelters throughout the Hoyl City and here in the Fort. My concern is their safety as well as the safety of the Huladians. I doubt that the Huladians have seen any one from the Federation except for us. There may be several altercations that could arise from this mess. I can have A Company handle the security within the camps." "Why so?" "Well, sir, based on previous experiences with refugees in a foriegn land, tensions could rise between the native residents and the displaced civilians. You never know how things might be." Greene nodded. "Alright then. Make it happen." ------------ NRPG: Dave M.: Y'think there might be some animosity between the locals and ALIGHIERI civilians?
