Makina hurried down the curving sweep of StarBase ALIGHIERI's promenade,
scanning the croud for one LT Alexis Johan.  The name sounded framiliar, but
he couldn't place it.

The YORKTOWN had arrived ten minutes previously, and he had beamed aboard with
Katz and Gibson, who were to meet with the sevral of the other command
officers and prepare defense for the Dalderia, whom were expected to, if they
cept up their slow pace, witch was almost a clrawl, arrive in six to eight
hours.

Suddenly Jalta remembered who Johan was.  Johan had been a fourth-year cadet
on Nova Squad when Makina had joined Red Squad's navigators in his second
year.  They had had sevral mock skirmishes and obstacle cource contests.  If
memeory served, Johan had perpetually won untill after spring break of that
year, when Makina had won four times in a row.

Suddenly an annoucement came over station COMMS, ^The stations COMMs systems
are now functioning again.  We apologise for the twenty-minute shutdown, we
had to repair a central router.^

`Finally!` thought Makina, and then immediatly paged Johan.

Johg was in the center chair when Alexis and Jalta entered.  Makina returned
to his seat, and Alexis went over to talk with the Klingon and take command.

"The new OPS officer, I presume?" stated Johg matter-of-factly.

Johg returned to his seat, and Alexis settled into the unframiliar chair.
`Things can't be going well,` he thought, `if I end up in the center seat
before I even meet the Captian.`

Deciding to infrom himself of what was going on, he turned to Makina,
"Apparently your runabouts will be flying with ALIGHIERI's fighter defense?"

"That's the tentative plan," Makina turned, "but we only have two avalable, as
the dropship ZION was destroied recently and the MALAD is still in ALIGHIERI
for repairs.  She blew a conduit when docking with YORKTOWN before we came
here.  Killed our critically injured CMO, and a nurse."

"Wonderful. . ."
