It destroyed and obviously melted some chips on the board inside a specific system. Then the discharge united with the main power-stream which supported the system with energy. The discharge strenghtened exponentially and raced on through the power-conduits until it reached the automatised control-systems of the warp-nacelles. A lot of shortcircuits were the consequences. Automatically the warp-drive shut down to prohibit further damage. The power-protections had snapped out of their working-positions. The whole incident melted several computerboards and robed the YORKTOWN's warp-capability. FMD: 6.1700 Scene: Bridge ------------- Makina checked all the systems again and found everything in order except the many minor damages the ship had suffered during the battle. This situation changed only a few seconds later when he noticed the failure of the warp-field. The stars changed back from streaks of light to little twinkling spots in the black and cold vastnes of space. The sound of the engines had vanished. Gibson in the centerchair noticed the change in the background-noise immediately but first he couldn't figure out what had happened. It felt like a ticking watch which suddenly stops. "Sir, we've lost warp-capability. Warp-drive shows automatic shutdown." Makina reported to the XO. "Damn ... Bridge to Engineering." [Ne'Telkmar here, Sir.] "What's the matter down there?" [We've had some shortcircuits and discharges on the antimatter-injector control-system. This continued up through the conduits till it reached the warp-field controllers at the nacelles, Sir.] "Get that damn warp-drive online ASAP." [Aye, Commander.] In this very moment the Captain stepped out of his Ready Room. He must have noticed the changes too. "Report, Commander." "Warp-drive offline, Sir. We're bound to impulse only due to electronic problems at the antimatter-injectors." Johg piped in from his station. "Sir, the Dalriadan fleet hads stopped at the end of the corridor. It looks like they will block the exit of the system." Katz brought up a tactical display on a small screen in the armrest of his centerchair. "Mr. Makina, bring us back to SB Alighieri at full impulse." "Aye, Sir." "Mr. Johg, open a channel to Commodore Mirtox and put it on screen." "Aye, Sir." A few seconds later the face of the taskforce-commander appeared. It seemed rather exhausted like most of the federation-faces in the Dante-system. [What is the reason for your call, Captain Katz?] "We have serious trouble with our warp-drive, Commodore and therefore can't leave for Omega. Second the Dalriadan fleet has regrouped at the end of the corridor. It seems for the purpose to block the exit." [Well, then you've not much of a choice, Captain. Now you get your chance to stay here and fight with us. For the moment the situation in space has calmed down so there is not much to do for the YORKTOWN at the moment but nevertheless bring her within the vicinity of Alighieri and Hulad.] "Aye, Sir. Orders have already been given. Yorktown out." All: Sorry, TF-Command has decided to keep us a little bit longer in the Dante-system.
