Sorill asked. Captain Dieje would have rather found some green Betazed Ensign to handle this next task, given that Dieje did not entirely trust Sorill, but since the fate of his station, and indeed, Starfleet's entire presence in the area might depend on what could be learned from the Dalriadan Ambassadors currently on base, he had to make the bet. "I have already told you what the two ambassadors relayed to me about their home planet. We are doing more than our best to prepare ourselves militarily for the war with the Dalriada. At this point I would say that Starbase OMEGA is the most heavily-armed Starbase in the Federation, but barring any new improvements from Lt. Hevall, Esn Finn or the rest of our staff, we may still be at a disadvantage. I am therefore not too proud to seek any advantage we might gain through better intelligence. Surely you would not disagree with that statement, Lt. Col Sorill?" Sorill raised a corner of his mouth and nodded, giving the signal to Dieje to continue. "Well, it may be unorthodox, but I would like you to probe the minds of our two ambassadors, to see first, if they are telling the truth, and second, to see if they are hiding anything else." Admiral Brooks spoke up, "Not only is it unorthodox, Captain, it is illegal." "Admiral, my history shows that I am not unwilling to break Starfleet rules to do that which is ultimately in the best interest of the Federation. Your son would have agreed with me, and has in the past." The Admiral flushed temporarily, trying to hide the reaction that was about to erupt. Instead, he just quietly replied, "Understand that I am not aware of what it is you are about to do, Captain." And with that, he walked out of the room to return to his office. Dieje turned and looked down into the eyes of the Intelligence officer, "I realize what I am asking you to do, Colonel, but I do not want support, nor do I want understanding. I just want you to do what I request." Sorill unfolded his arms and straightened his uniform. "Give me some time to meditate for the connection. I will meet you outside the Dalriadan Ambassadors' quarters at 0630." Dieje nodded his agreement while adding, "I must meet with my XO to discuss some of our defense strategies, we'll confront the ambassadors at 1030.", and went back to the Operations deck to see if there was any new information from the fleet ships. Dieje received a somewhat cryptic message from Slevin Hevall about a Romulan on base named Pix. Dieje quickly scanned the message for any indication of trouble. Apparently, this Pix character proffered support, but he did not indicate what kind of support that would be. Well, without any more specifics, Dieje was going to leave that message out of his mind for now. Just as long as there were no unpleasant surprises. ******************* Scene: SB OMEGA, Outside of the Dalriadan quarters. FMD 6.1030 The first thing Dieje saw as he rounded the hallway was the prone body of ensign Yu'ud in front of the open entrance to the Dalriadan quarters. As he ran closer, he saw Lt. Col Sorill leaning over the other security officer. Dieje quickly checked to see that Yu'ud was still alive, just apparently dazed, before glancing back to Sorill. Sorill was helping the other security officer to sit up. Dieje got up and hit his commbadge, "Dieje to medical, we need a team to the Dalriadan quarters immediately!!" As he issued the command, he ran into the quarters to look for any sign of the two Dalriada. They were not there. "Computer this is Captain Dieje, go to yellow alert." There were many reasons for going to yellow alert. If the ambassadors were going to try and sabotage the station, they would do it soon. Dieje had another concern, however, if they felt that there was a reason to leave SB OMEGA, then they knew something that Dieje really needed to know, NOW. "We've lost the two Dalriadan ambassadors. I don't know what's happened quite yet, but I need you to close all access to OMEGA. I also need you send a security team down to investigate their quarters for any clues to what they are doing. We need everyone, Siol, at least for the next 24 hours or until we find the Dariada. Even then, I've got a bad feeling about this." "Dieje to Cmdr. Henderson." "I know you have been busy working with Finn and Hevall, but I need you to put some transmission security protocols in place. I want to know EVERY transmission that goes in or out of this Starbase. I am afraid that the Dalriada may send out something that could compromise our security. Use the backup computer systems if you have to, but I want even carrier waves investigated." "That's all I can ask for Commander. I would also like you to get updates from all our ships in the fleet for any unusual activity. Once we find the Dalriada, we will ease back on those orders." Dieje responded. It was at that point that the medical staff appeared. They had been doing quite well, considering there was no full-time CMO on OMEGA. They quickly checked the two security officers with their tricorders. "There are traces of Sano-Efflene gas in their lungs, Captain. They should come around in a few minutes." "I want you to revive them now, Ensign." "B..but sir, S-E gas must be cleared naturally from the system. If we use a stimulant, there is a %60 chance that it could lengthen the effects of the gas for up to ten hours." "Do it. We need to know what happened NOW." Dieje regretted making such a decision, but everyone had to sacrifice in a war, and time was the scarce resource now, not security officers. As long as there was no permanent damage, it was an easy choice. The hypospray was administered to both of the officers. The medical Ensign stared intently at his tricorder. After about twenty seconds, he frowned, and looked up at Dieje as he shook his head. "Damn!," Dieje cursed his luck. The gamble didn't pay off this time. "All right, get those two to sickbay. Let Lt. Siol Nuave know immediately if there is a positive change in their condition." Dieje ordered the quarters of the Dalriada sealed until the investigation team could begin their work. Both Dieje and Sorill then returned to the Operations deck to keep up with the search for the missing Ambassadors. Dieje felt rather guilty, for hoping that the Dalriada were kidnapped by some disgruntled denizen of OMEGA, and not that the Dalriada made their own way out of their security. Now it was just a matter of time. Hopefully, whatever the Dalriada were planning, the combine efforts of Starfleet personnel on OMEGA could stop them before their task is completed. *********** FMD 6.0602 Lt. Col. Sorill agrees to do a mind scan of the Dalriadan Ambassadors FMD 6.1030 The Ambassadors disappear, OMEGA goes to Yellow Alert status. Respectfully Submitted, Capt. Iki-May Dieje CO, SB OMEGA NRPG Jeff J:Hi Jeff, I tried to send this to the listserv, but there was an error (I have to send through a different server than I receive through.) Anyway, you may want to include the part about OMEGA going to yellow alert in an FMD summary.
