Apparently, Admiral Brooks felt Sovak prepared to command a Battleship, a duty, which the Vulcan admitted himself, he wasn't ready to take on. And, he wasn't very pleased with the idea. Nor with Talon being named as XO. The situation was worsening, and, with the conflict with the Dalriada hieghtening, he knew that this was just the begining. But, better to get to work repairing the ship than to sit around and ponder the situation. "Commander Walker, I have taken more than the required courses in Engineering at the Academy. Granted, it has been a while since I have had any practical expierence, but, I can still tell the difference between a phase-modulator and a power-coupling." "That should be plenty to start with. Grab some rest, then, report to Engineering along with the rest of your staff by 0430." "Understood, sir." Kyran said. FMD 7.0430 Scene Main Engineering Kyran, along with most of the Security Staff, officers and enlisted, totaling over 35 men and women, walked into Main Engineering to find a tired crew. Granted, none of his crew had more than 4 hours of sleep, but, this was war, and everyone had to make sacrifices. "Commander Walker, Securyity Department reporting as ordered, sir!" Walker didn't waste any time mincing words. He immediately grabbed the PADD Kyran held out, listing each of their additional training. He assigned the Security personnel to the assist the areas needing attention first. "Kyran, I see you have plenty of time with heavy equipment and EVA manuevers." "Correct." "Good. Suit up. You are going to assist with the hull repairs." Walker said as he rushed off to check on some other item needing his attention. Kyran quickly walked over to a storage locker, and recieved a standard duty tool-pack specially designed to be used for use with the EVA suits. Then, walking to another locker, he grabbed an EVA suit designed for his frame and suited up. Scene Airlock 9 Kyran waited for the depressurization to be complete, then cycled the outer door. Stepping carefuly out the door, he re-adjusted his sense of 'down' since he would be walking along the side of the ship, and also most likely the bottom too. The ship surface was pock-marked with patches and spots that looked ready to almost give out. Most of the repairs out here had been completed, but, there were still other burnt out systems that needed to be repaired, and some of those repairs could only be accessed from the external hatches on the outer hull. As he located the officer in charge, he was quickly put to work assisting with the patching of an especially large hole. Luckily, the internal force fields had been able to stop the ship from loosing internal atmosphere except for those areas which were unable to be sealed quick enough. FMD 7.0800 Kyran felt the strain in his muscles from doing an activity he had not done since his early days at the Academy. Luckily, they were almost finished. Even in the zero gravity of space, it took extreme exertion and concentration to keep the plasma welding equipment in place. One slip, and he could either cut off an entire section of the hull, or his own suit, causing almost certain, instantaneous death. After finishing that weld, the small crew he was working with prepared to move over to the last of their assignment. They removed the magnetic clamps, holding the welding tanks in place. As soon as they did, the welder misfired, causing it to shoot upwards, straight into Kyran's midsection. The wind got knocked out of him, and he felt himself floating away from the hull. [Jordanton to Transporter Room! Lock onto LCDR Kyran's signal and beam in immediately!] The crew leader cried out. [Unable to get a proper lock onto him!] The transporter tech replied. [Dammit! Okay, I'm going after him!] The Lieutenant cried out, attaching a tether to the ship. Normally, they kept the tethers attached at all times, but, they were preparing to move a distance away, and had disengaged them. Launching himself away from the hull, he saw the form of the Klingon Security Chief trying to halt his momentum. [Hold still, sir! I'm coming for you!] Kyran looked to the Lieutenant, [Well then, hurry the hell up!] He retorted. As Jordanton neared Kyran, he twisted himself, to allow the Lieutenant to grab hold of his ankle. [Gotcha!] [Good, now get us back to the ship.] Kyran said, feeling pain in his midsection, where the welder had connected. [Reel us in!] Slowly, they were pulled back to the ship, and, once there, both officers engaged their gravity boots, to ensure that they would not float away any time soon. [Prepare the airlock.] Jordanton said over the internal commlink. [What the hell for?] Kyran questioned. [Sir, you should go see the doctor.] [Lieutenant, I'm fine. And, besides, we don't exactly have the luxury of time right now. We have to get this ship ready before anything worse happens.] Kyran said, trying to keep the pain from showing on his face. If he could just make it to the end of the day, he could get a glass of Fire Tea, which was reported to have medicinal qualities for Klingons, but, were fatal to most other races. [Okay, let's get this last patch job completed, then, head to the weapons arrays.] Jordanton ordered. FMD 7.1300 Most of the external repairs had been completed, but, there was still lots of work to do in order to make certian the ship would be able to move under it's own power. Kyran walked into the Weapons Control Room, to assist with the repairs there, and saw A'Vanya working on one of the targeting subsystem relays. He quickly headed over besides her as she reached blindly for a tool. "Here you go." "Thanks. Could you shine the light over here?" She said, pointing over her right shoulder. Kyran grabbed the light and shone it where she directed. As she finished the alignment of the relay system, she pulled herself out. "Kyran!" She said, sounding happy to see him. "What's next?" He asked, with a smile. "Well, we need to get the Target Lock systems realigned now." She said, moving over to the next open section. Kyran quickly laid down on his back and pulled himself under the counter. "Hand me the spanner." He said. She handed him the requested tool. "Kyran, you look like crap." She said. "Well, thank you. You don't look so hot yourself, you know." He said, checking the connection for the wiring to the subsystem. "Yeah, well, you look like you need to go to sickbay." "Unfortunately, I'm needed elsewhere right now." He said. "Look, after we get underway, we need to talk." She said, surprising him. "I thought you weren't ready for anything more than what we already had?" He said, grabbing the Optical Cable splicer. "Well, that's one of the things we need to talk about." "I've been doing a lot of thinking recently, and, I think we should talk also. But, right now, there's plenty of work to be done. Contact me once we get underway." He said. "Fine." She said, sounding a little hurt. *Dammit! Keep your mind on your work right now!* He said, watching her walk over to another station to start some more repairs. FMD : 7.2230 Scene Kyran's Quarters Kyran walked into his quarters, exhausted from a long day of working on repairs of the ship. Most of his staff had been temporarily reassigned to assist the Engineering department in order to speed up the process. And, luckily enough, most of the Security Staff had a background in Engineering. At the very least, they were proficient in emergency repairs, having to be prepared to handle most any situation on an away mission. Kyran himself had taken a few more of the Engineering classes than normally required. As he shrugged off the utility suit, he heard the incoming message alert. "Computer, play message." He heard Gabriel Phoenix's voice being played over the speaker. > "Kyran I have a request of you on a matter of a rather personal nature. It is a > personal favor which I will be indebted to you for. Please do not discuss this > transmission with anyone. > I ask you to please instruct me on the language, culture and Ways of the > Warrior inherent in Klingon society. I don't want you to show me how it is > to live like a Klingon. I asking you to teach me how to be Klingon. > My reasons for this are my own, but I would like you to assist me in my > endeavor." "That will be a challenging request, but, I think it will be one worth the effort." Kyran said to nobody in particular. "Computer, reply to message." "Gabriel, I will be more than honored to assist you in this endeavor, however, it will have to wait until the ship is up to a battle-ready status. My workload is high right now. But, I will assist you. End recording and send." [Message delivered.] Ordering a glass of Fire Tea, a medicinal drink for klingons, Kyran sat down on the small sofa in the living quarters. Qatlh rushed up to greet him, happy to see her master after a long day. She sniffed his knees, as he moved his hand to scratch her behind the ears. "Qatlh, my friend. No matter how hard things get, you will be there for me, right?" He asked her, knowing she couldn't hope to respond. But, she jumped up onto the sofa and snuggled next to him. The day had been long, and, Kyran hadn't even had the time to take a break for a meal. But, right now, he was too tired to eat. The external repairs had been completed by 1300 hours, and the ship itself was ready to leave SB Omega 1725. Sovak wasn't exactly pleased with that, but, it was ahead of the estimated time Walker had given him. Granted, the ship wasn't at 100% battle readiness, but, she was space-worthy, and able to move under her own power. So, they had left Omega, heading to their next assignment. "I am sorry I have been neglecting you, but, things are really hectic right now. As soon as things calm down, I will spend more time with you. I promise." He said, sighing. He didn't even have the energy to move to his bed. Instead, he fell asleep right there, with Qatlh on his lap. <> Okay all.. Sorry for the delays... but, things have been a little hectic... I tried to get some repair work in without getting too much into Engineering Technobabble, since I'm no expert at that. If there are any problems, Jeff, feel free to notify me and we can find a way to correct it. David, hope you don't mind me borrowing A'Vanya like that again! If you want to add anything to what I have coming up, feel free to let me know! Dennis, sorry for the delay in response to Gabriel's question... but, hey, it;s here! feel free to contact me if you have any specific plans for this... Jeff/Tim : If there is a problem with my timeframe for some of the repairs, feel free to adjust it as necessary. I figured we would come close to the Captain's time frame, but, not quite make it exactly... FMD 7.0010 Kyran is shocked by the word from INDIGO. FMD 7.0430 Kyran and crew report for extra duty. FMD 7.1300 Kyran moves to the next area of repair. FMD 7.2230 Kyran returns home, exhausted.
