"This is gonna hurt. You want some painkiller?" "NO!" Kyran whirled around, eyes red, nostrils flaring. "Uhh.. Fine... Just thought I would ask!" The doctor said , and quickly turned to look around. "Umm..uhh.." He said, placing his hands on Kyran's clavicle and the front of his shoulder. "I'll take it from here, you go assist elsewhere." Kenfald said, walking up. Never before had Kyran seen a doctor so relieved to be assigned to assist somewhere else. "There you go, scaring my staff again, Commander, " Kenfald said as she gripped his shoulder in the same fashion, and shoved hard. "ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Kyran let out a scream. Not one of agony, but, more like a reminder that he was still alive, and the hero who he served under has gone to fight elsewhere. "Does it feel better now that you have scared all my staff and patients?" Kenfald asked, somewhat iritated. "Actually, Doctor, it does!" Kyran said. "How's Commander Krigton doing?" "I've been able to reduce the gravity in his room, allowing the tissues and organs some sort of a break. However, until Engineering can get a replacement unit for him, he isn't going to be leaving Sickbay." "I'll go see about getting one from them." Kyran said, standing up. "Wait a minute, Commander. You also have a series of other injuries to attend to. I want you under observation for at least the next 6 hours, possibly 24." "Doctor, I have got things to do, people to see, and deaths to avenge. And, if I don't go now, it's possible many, many more will die at the hand of an innocent." He said as he marched out of sickbay. **************************** Scene Main Engineering **************************** Kyran walked into Main Engineering, to find the place bustling like a targh den in the middle of mating season. People were working on emergency repairs left and right, trying to ensure that the ship would be top-shape to go back out. This was what it was like in a war. Off to one side, he saw Walker looking over the shield calibration monitor, trying to come up with some form of miracle, no doubt. "Commander, I need to have a word with you." Kyran said. "Ach. Dinnae see I'm busy! Can' it wait?" Walker spat out. "Actually sir, it can't wait. It involves the ensured safety of the rest of this crew. Is there somewhere we can talk, privately?" Kyran emphasized the last word. "Fine. Power Relay Convertor Room." Walker said as he turned to bark out a few orders before leading Kyran to the secluded area. After they reached the specified room, Walker turned. "Now, Commander, what's so important to pull me away from my work?" Kyran took another second to look around, to ensure nobody else was listening in... "Sir, it's about Sovak being placed in Command of the ship. I don't like it one bit. And, from past expierence, I don't think you do either. We are at war here! We need a Commanding Officer who won't be afraid to make a tactical decision, not a pacifistic scientist who was just recently promoted to XO. We need someone with expierence in battle, somebody who will recognize the possibility for a tactical advantage, someone who knows how to use those advantages. Not somebody who spent most of his career studying history and past civilizations." Walker sighed. "What we need is a crew who will nae question their captain. I dinnae like Sovak any more than you do and he may not be the best tactician, but until the admiral says otherwise, he is the cap'n." "But he'll get us all slaughtered. He has no battle instincts. How about yourself? You have the knowledge of the ship, you know her abilities better than anybody else." Kyran said, emphatically. "Aye, but, all the better reason for me to stay in engineering, where I would be needed in the midst of a crisis. No, Sovak is the captain. He may not know people, but he has a logical mind and that will serve him well in keeping track of the battle." "He'll spend his time analizing us to death when he should be taking action. What about on a temporary basis, until we can talk to Admiral Brooks to get somebody else assigned? The longer he is in command, with Talon as his XO, the worse off we'll be." "I think that you may be underestimating Sovak. Just because he cannae deal with people does not mean that he's a fool." "But can we afford to gamble the lives of the entire crew on giving him a chance? I've been thinking of that also. There are a few XO's whom I think would be perfect for the job. Commander Michael Ryan, XO of the USS IRON DUKE, or Commander Jason Killimar, XO of the USS RODNEY. I know the SEC Officers on those ships, and they say that both men are fine officers, and capable of commanding a warship. That is what is needed right now." "And, what about XO? I know you don't care for Talon very much." "Let's just say that I don't trust the man very much. LCDR Jon Jameson, or even LCDR Jaz Krigton would be excellent in that position. They know what needs to be done and they get it done. And, I know both of them very well. They are honorable men, and have proven themselves in the past." "If you are serious, then we need to talk to Sovak. I dinnae think that he will react well to mutiny." The Klingon frowned deeply at the use of the word. "What do you think thae plotting against the cap'n is? And as much as we dinnae like him, Sovak is the cap'n. Noo we'd best be off and have a talk wi' him. Yer nae the first to have suggested that Sovak's being cap'n be a death sentence. And I cannae ignore it any longer." **************** Scene Bridge **************** Walker and Kyran both walked out of the Turbolift, each man more intent and serious as they had been in the past. If things weren't handled properly, then it could be labeled as a mutiny, and both of their careers would be at stake. Luckily, Sovak was in the Captain's Ready room. Kyran couldn't think of Sovak as the Captain. Not now, and, hopefully, he wouldn't have to. He had considered bringing in Phoenix on this, knowing that there was no love lost between the FCO and the OPS, Acting XO. But, he wanted to get this handled quickly, and so, he went for the best man he felt for the job. They quickly entered the Ready Room, the doors opening for them without any need for announcement. As they walked in, they expected to see Sovak going over some report he would be making to Admiral Brooks, or Admiral Phaser. But, instead, they saw him packing away Slicks personal belongings. Kyran unconsciously growled. "Sir, we need to talk," Walker started out simply. "The is a problem with the crew." "And what would that be, Commander Walker?" inquired Sovak with his nautrally bland tone. "They dinnae believe that you can lead them into combat against the Dalriada. A number have suggested thae as senior officer by permanent rank, I should relieve you. They dinnae like Mister Talon any better than they like you. They dinnae trust a Dalriadan by blood. I'm nae sure thae I agree with either case, but you cannae afford to ignore the morale of the crew the way you did of the science department. These people need to know that they are going to be alive in a few days or they will find some way of getting themselves killed." <> Okay Tim... Take it from here!
