From alton.reich@snet.net Sun Jun 7 11:29:19 1998 Date: Wed, 15 Apr 1998 07:42:57 -0400 From: Alton and Elizabeth Reich To: distribution:@snet.net; (see end of body) Subject: USS YAMATO: Dropping the Hammer Newsgroups: alt.starfleet.rpg SD: 100415.0700 MD: 5.1100-ish Minutes ticked by, and tension seeped from every breath. Throught the YAMATO NPCs glanced furtively at their fellows and wondered if their reflexes would prove to be fast enough to push someone else in front of the deadly disruptor blast that lay somewhere in their future. A Ferengi stalked past two phaser rifle toting security guards and entered the cargo bay. He looked around and then made a decision, the problem must be in the general vicinity of the charred patch of bulkhead on the other side of the compartment. LT Bal crossed the cargo bay and walked up to Counselor Mahs, "Counselor, next time you talk to your patients, I'd appreciate it if you'd do it in your office. You're making a mess of my cargo bay," Bal said with a toothy grin. "Very funny, LT," Say replied, "Any idea what this was doing here?" he asked holding up the transmitter. "Exploding?" Bal offered while taking the device from him. Bal set it on a nearby cargo container and removed a tricorder from his tool kit. He activated the tricorder and picked up a polyphotonic scanner and began to probe the remains of the tricorder. Bal began humming to himself as he worked. He poked and prodded at the device for a few minutes before turning to Say and saying, "There's a potential problem here." "I'll say, the bulkhead is a mess." "Worse than that. Up until it exploded, this transmitter was transmitting. Under the current circumstances, that could be a bad thing." Say looked concerned for a moment, and then said, "I'd better tell the Captain." "Yes you should," Bal said to the back of the Counselor as he rapidly walked away. *** [Bridge MD:5.1115] "Captain, the first probe is approaching the debris field," LT D'artgnan reported from the OPS station. "Have the probe slow to impulse and scan the debris," Isaac ordered. "The debris appears to be Federation in origin," LT Stephens said. "Is any of it not from Federation ships?" Isaac asked while dreading the answer. "Not that I can tell, Sir." The turbo lift door opened and Counselor Mahs stepped out onto the bridge, "CAPT, I think we have a problem." "And that is?" Isaac asked. "LT Bal believes that the transmitter that exploded in the cargo bay was transmitting," Say replied. "So the Dalriada may know we're coming," Alex Connor said with a look of concern on his face. "Yes, Sir," Say said. "This is not a good thing," Isaac said softly. *** [RDN Vessel MOANDER - about the same time] "Captain, I'm detecting a warp signature approaching the debris field," the tactical officer reported. "Here they come now," CMDR Thovlak said with a grin. "Are we shielded from detection by their sensors by the shadow of the planet?" CAPT Dowdaedan asked. "Yes, Sir," TAC replied. "Take us back into normal space. Prepare the gravity drive system and bring the weapons on line," Dowdaedan ordered. *** [Bridge YAMATO about MD5.1115] "Captain, the second probe is coming out of the sensor shadow of the 5th planet," LT Stephens reported, "It should be able to scan the outpost on Tabillin from this range." "On screen," Isaac said, standing. The image on the screen shifted from the 7th planet in the system, which the YAMATO was passing to a view of Tabillin. The planet looked like any othe rinhabited worl in the Federation, a combination of blue, brown and puffy white clouds. Then the view began to waver. An area of shimmering formed in the middle of the screen and was quickly replaced by a cigar shaped object. "Have the probe scan that ship, LT" Isaac ordered. "The power signature is Dalriadan, its mass is about 80% of ours," Cassandra reported. Isaac hesitated a moment before Bregan announced, "The other probe is detecting a second ship closer to Tabillin." Isaac looked at Alex, "Two?" "There's no way, Sir." "LT M'gan," Isaac ordered, "Get us out of here. Plot a gravity assist trajectory using the 7th planet to get us turned around." "Aye, Sir." "LT Stephens, get as much data using those probes as you can before the Dalriada destroy them. We've got to get out of here and let CINCINDIGO know that Tabillin has become the first casualty of this war." NRPG: Sorry for the delay, but Josh was right, the RT is eating up a lot of time, and I'm not that actively involved in the debate. Vickie: The Dalriadan ships (there are 3 total) will give chase, but we have a head start, some forward momentum, their orders will require them to stay within the system, and they have no warp drive. As soon as we're out of the system, the YAM will go to warp for the trip out of the nebula. The next step is escape. Feel free to make it interesting. The Dalriada may get into weapons range, but probably not because of the reasons listed above. Enough rambling.
