From alton.reich@snet.net Sun Jun 7 11:28:20 1998 Date: Sun, 05 Apr 1998 21:31:20 -0400 From: Alton and Elizabeth Reich To: distribution:@snet.net; (see end of body) Subject: USS YAMATO: Decisions to Make Newsgroups: alt.starfleet.rpg SD: 100405.2045 MD: 5.1000 - ish The YAMATO sliced through the thin whisps of nebulus material that drifted across the access corridor. Their sensors could tell them very little about the region of space that lay just beyond the walls of the tunnel they were in. They were able to get tantalizing glimpses of what lay ahead, when the conditions were right. So far, it seemed as if they were alone, too alone. Isaac watched LT M'gan's tail swish from left to right, and back again for about the hundredth time that hour. Sighing he turned his chair away from the main view screen and faced his XO. "CMDR Connor, your thoughts on the benifits of launching a few probes." "We'd have to unload one of the torpedo tubes to launch them, but I thin the risk is acceptable. As far as we know there isn't anything out there right now, and the probes will probably provide us with much needed information," Alex said. Isaac nodded, "A pair of Type 5 probes. I want one programmed to head right for Tabillin. I want the other programed to take a longer route." "Aye, Sir," Connor said as Isaac turned back toward the view screen. Alex tapped a control on his computer panel and said, "CMDR Connor to engineering." [Engineering, Wolfe here.] "I thought you were on light duty LT," Alex asked. [I'm just sitting in my office, Sir. You can't get much lighter than that.] Alex took it in stride and passed Isaac's order on to Morgan. [I should have those probes ready for launch in about 10 minutes. Wolfe out.] "LT M'gan, how long until we clear the nebula?" Isaac asked. "About 45 minutes, Sir." "Prepare the courses for the probes for loading into their computers. Set the probes for a cruising speed of warp 3," Isaac ordered. "Aye, Sir," M'gan replied. *** [MD5:1030] "Captain, telemetry from the probes is steady, and their sensors indicate that they are about to break through the inner wall of the nebula," LT Stephens reported. "Let's see what they've got, LT," Isaac said standing from the center seat. The immage on the screen shifted and the gasses and dust of the nebula seemed to thin slightly. Then, like a curtain being pushed aside from a window, the haze cleared, and the Tabillin system appeared before them. On the screen one of the probes veered to the left. "We're going to loose telemetry from that one until we clear the nebula," Cassandra said. Isaac nodded and Alex stood behind him, "Any sign of the base's patrol ships?" Alex asked. "No, sir." "Any comm traffic?" Isaac asked. "No sir," Cassandra replied again. The two senior officers looked at each other again. Neither had a good feeling. Suddenly alarm klaxons began to ring, and Isaac spun around toward LT Trisx, "LT, what's the problem?" "There's been an explosion in Cargo Bay 1!" "Are we under attack?" the worst enemy was one you couldn't see, Isaac thought. "I don't believe so," Trisx replied, "Sensor logs do not indicate any objects outside the ship before the explosion, and there is no sign of a hull breach." "Sir!" ENS Mahs said erupting from his seat, "Permission to investigate." "Granted, ENS," Isaac said, "Take a security team with you and report back as soon as possible." "Yes, Sir," Say replied as he moved toward the turbolift. "Are you sure he's the right one to send, Sir," Alex said quietly. As the turbolift doors swished close, Isaac turned to him and said, "I need you here and he needs something to keep him occupied. However, you do have a point," Isaac tapped his comm badge, "Stern to LT D'artgnan." [LT D'artgnan here, Sir.] "Where are you LT?" [I'm on my way to Cargo Bay 1.] "Excellent. If ENS Mahs asks, I didn't send you." [Aye, Sir,] Bregan replied, a hint of confusion in his voice. "Stern out." "Capatin, we're approaching the edge of the nebula," LT M'gan reported. "Slow to Warp 1 and take us into the system, LT," Isaac ordered. "Sir, I would recommend that we wait inside the nebula until we know what happened in the Cargo Bay," Alex said. "Under different circumstances, XO, I'd agree with you. In this case, however, CINCINDIGO is counting on us to find out what happened here, and time is of the escence. Cargo Bay 1 doesn't contain any vital systems. I think the ship will be fine." Isaac turned to the science station, "Anything on sensors, LT?" "Aye, Sir. I'm detecting some debris in orbit around Tabillin. It appears to be the remains of several Federation vessels." "Life signs?" "None, Captain." NRPG: Josh and Alexs: It's a minor explosion, but it should keep you two writing and out of trouble for a little while. Vickie: Can you handle the approach to Tabillin? The YAM will probably get a little closer before running away. As we get closer to the planet we'll have to drop speed - probably one quarter impulse. Remember the way out here is that one of the Dalriadan commanders gets anxious and jumps too soon. Perhaps he jumps at one of the probes, thus alerting us to their presence. Somehow I'd like to see all 3 Dalriadan ships before we run like a whipped dog. Pat and Kris: An interesting idea - The base on Tabillin is not destroyed. What if the YAMATO tries to contact the base and is answered by a Dalriadan posing as a Federation officer? It could 1. Get the YAMATO in closer. 2. Raise suspicions somehow. Just a thought (I almost wrote it, but I wnated other opinions first.) All: Every 6 months the ASR Administrators (ship COs and higher on the Chain of Command) get together for a round table discussion about issues of concern within the group. If you have anything you want discussed, please bring it to my attention. [NRPG mode: This RT thing is killing me. I must have read 100 RT related messages this weekend. It's a good thing we only do this twice a year :)] Respectfully submitted, CAPT Isaac Stern CO - USS YAMATO (NCC-1705-E) Alton Reich -- Alton & Elizabeth Reich alton.reich@snet.net "Dreams are sometimes catching / Desire goes to my head / Love responds to your invitation / Love responds to imagination / Respond, Vibrate, Feed Back, Resonate" -- Rush, Chain Lightning %%% overflow headers %%% To: Alter Ego , Josh Young , Pat Schumacher , Les Chappelle , Janis Hill , Vicke Denniston , vicden1@yahoo.com, Kristine Berg , Karen Fainges , Alexs Thompson , Jim Littleton , Jeffrey Jenkins , Jeffery Trock , George Harmon %%% end overflow headers %%%
