SD: 100309 MD: 2.0245 Scene: Bridge, USS YAMATO It was six hours since the YAMATO had departed SB OMEGA. Six hours of staff and crew which were on thr edge of their seats, uncertain as to just where and what they were about to get themselves into. Undoubtedly, they were in store for trouble. Onward the light-cruiser streaked through space, hell-bent on her course with destiny. Throughout the ship, preperations were being made to accomodate hostile actions. Sickbay was bustleing with activity, as Lisa and young, Ensign Mahs coordinated their efforts as medical staff. Bregan felt sorry for them. Their job was much tougher than the normal ground pounders. They had to sit in and endure the fighting, watching as fellow crew members fell, then amidst the din of battle tried to keep those fallen comrades amongst the land of the living. No thanks, Bregan mused to himself, not for me. Scanning his status reports, Bregan saw that it had been almost an hour since the last departmental update. Granted, a senior staff meeting was scheduled for somewhere within the next few hours, but that didn't mean those Dalriada were going to actually sit back and wait for YAMATO, and the rest of INDIGO FLEET for that matter, to discuss courses of action on how to a:) defeat them, or b:) Keep them at a standstill. Tapping his commbadge, Bregan paused for a moment until the channel was open and then spoke, "Dr. Mara, departmental status report is due within 15 minutes." Lisa took a few moments to reply herself, and when she did, she didn't sound to be pleased at the interruption. "Thank you, Lieutenant. I'll just drop everything else I'm doing down here, and get right on that." D'Artgnan replied without even missing a beat, "Thanks Doc, I appreciate it. Oh, and if Ensign Mahs is still there, please relay the same for him as well. OPS out." Smiling a bit to himself, Bregan realized he was going to be slightly in the doghouse for that, but he had enjoyed it in a perverse sort of way. Going down the list of each department head, he then relayed the same message, which was in turn met with almost the same results as Lisa's. Everyone was on edge and trying to be as prepared as possible and the distractions weren't in their minds helping them do their job. It was keeping OPS up to date however, so Bregan kept using that "Thanks loads!" attitude up and soon the reports began to trickle in. Filing those reports to be looked at in a few moments, he turned his attention back to the Dalriada. There had been no new reports coming in since the LEX incident. Odd. A heavy engagement involving the destruction of both ships, heavy loss of life, including both starship captains, then silence. Bregan wondered if the Dalriadans had almost done the same thing as Starfleet. Sent a cruiser out to investigate the loss of their ship. No doubt they would have sent some sort of subspace message of their own. If indeed the Dalriadan government had launched an investigatory ship, it was likely the two starships would cross-paths. In that event, who knew what would happen. Of course, he could also have been way off track, and YAMATO could very well drop out of warp to find an armada parked out there in preparation to annhilate the Federations presence in the area. Thinking of that reminded the burly british OPS officer of something that Captain Stern had said earlier. Something along the lines of, "I really hadn't thought that my first command might very well turn out to be my last." To that Bregan had replied, "Sir, I didn't accept the transfer to YAMATO to become some storybook hero. I'm not planning on checking out anytime soon, and considering you're stuck with me for a while, I don't see you going anywhere either." Both men had laughed at that, but it had been a forced laugh without much humor behind it. Both men, as well as the rest of the crew, realized that if the YAMATO ran into a large Dalriadan force, it was going to be a rough ride. Punching up the departmental reports, D'Artgnan scanned them, and finding all of them reported in finally, forwarded a copy of them to both the CO and XO. They would be important pieces of info for the upcoming staff meeting. In the meantime, Bregan busied himself with trying to dig up more info on the current situation, even if it was scant pickings. respectfully submitted, LT Bregan D'Artgnan OPS, USS YAMATO Josh Young jyoung@jc.net
