The Stoner 63A bi pod differs from the earlier Stoner 63 bi pod in two areas. The gripping claw at the top is designed for the larger diameter gas tube of the Stoner 63A series gun and the there is a lock to keep the bi pod either in the open position or the closed position. This was added due to the bi pod getting knocked off in the field when going through brush. Each leg on the bi pod extends independently with a small latch mechanism on the inside of each leg. The legs can be extended without pushing the latches but in order to collapse the legs they must be pushed. The bottom of each foot has a small flange to give some grip on surfaces.
