SGS Mission Statement
The School of the Good Shepherd (SGS), a Catholic elementary school,
emphasizes academic excellence and the spiritual growth of our students in
an innovative, safe, and nurturing environment. SGS welcomes students of all
faiths and unites parents, teachers, students and community partners to
ensure the continuing success of our school.
SGS Vision Statement
To develop the academic excellence, spiritual maturity, and physical
health of each student - strengthening them as valued members of our family
and community - growing future leaders for our country and the world!
SGS History
The School of the Good Shepherd is the continuation of Winchester Academy,
which was opened in September 1903 by the Dominican Sisters in conjunction
with the Good Shepherd Parish. Initially, the school was known as St.
Francis de Sales School, but existed as Winchester Academy until 1965. The
present school was built and dedicated in 1966. In 1992, the school began a
new phase under lay administration after the Dominican Sisters were called
back to Nashville. The tradition of quality Catholic education in a loving,
caring, and nurturing environment continues today. |

Snow day Policy
Before winter arrives,
it is important to inform all parents of the Snow Day Policy. The school
advisory council with Father Jean’s approval has stated that on the first
day that Franklin County Schools are closed, School of the Good Shepherd
will be closed also.
After that first day, the School of the Good Shepherd
will be open no matter if Franklin County is closed.
The only time this would be altered would be in the case of a severe storm,
ice storm, or extreme weather conditions in which case everyone will be
contacted.
