My name is Steve Wheeler, and I have been involved in backyard astronomy for about 5 years.  I live in Franklin, TN (south of Nashville, mag 3+ skies), where all of my gear resides in a corner of my garage, next to a Barbie jeep, two cars, and assorted bikes and other toys.  By day, I am a trainer for LifeWay Christian Resources, by night an avid backyard star gazer.

I had always been interested in science and astronomy, and as a kid growing up in Florida in the 60's, I closely followed the space program and the Apollo missions.  As life unfolded, science took a back seat to other persuits, and I found myself on the plus side of 40 looking for a hobby that would rekindle my fascination with space.  I never had a telescope as a kid, so I thought "why not?".

Well, time passed and money was spent, and the results are on this web site.  I think the greatest thing about this hobby is that you can enjoy it on so many levels.  Whether you are a solitary observer peering through the eyepiece, gathered with friends at a star party, or trying to pull an image out of many desperate peices of equipment that all have to work just so, this hobby can provide many hours of enjoyment.
