Several years ago, I found a note on my ISP's homepage about a discounted
rate on something called "Disney's Toontown", with a free trial.
At the time, I played play-by-post roleplaying games, tabletop roleplaying games
(when we had a group, which was rare), and my husband played playstation.
We had a few PC games, mainly The Sims. I spent more time in front of our
one PC than my husband did. He'd use it while I was at work, or after I
went to sleep. The game looked amusing, and it was free to try, so I
signed us up. To our surprise, it was kinda fun. Not the coolest
game, and of course, most people playing were kids (although we were NOT a
rarity as adults, surprisingly enough). Anyway, after a week or so, I
heard about City of Heroes. Never played Toon Town again lol.
Although, it DOES explain why I cringe and wince and moan whenever I hear
someone refer to their character as a 'toon'. So... demeaning.
As a roleplayer, I find it trivializes your character, demeans them, at least
when you talk about them that way. I love roleplaying - but I can get off
on a whole new rant about those experiences...
Anyway (again), we played City of Heroes for a while, and then decided
sharing the PC was no longer a viable option. After MUCH saving and effort
(and donations from our wonderful friends!), my husband now has his OWN PC, and
I have my Moya all to myself. No more having to worry about if HE likes my
wallpaper. LOL.
After City of Heroes, we tried Everquest 1, which lasted about 3 days, and we
then we got Everquest 2. After EQ2, we bounced over into World of
Warcraft. After that, back to CoH (with bonus CoV), back to WoW, back to
EQ2... wow, dizzying... and then we tried SWG for a while. Less than a
full month. It was fun, but I can't see playing more than that - it gets
old a little fast. Fun... but not forever. My friend Nyiri (the one
that lured us into EQ), suggested DDO, and that's where we are now.
I have so much love for my many characters, but I don't have conceit enough
to think everyone wants to hear they're life stories - knowing that, I'm gonna
post 'em anyhow! lol. Along with pics and info on each, on the off chance
we happen to meet up online, you'll know to say hello! And you never know,
one or two of the bios might even be kinda amusing or fun to read, so if you
enjoy them, yay!
