The South Gratiot Association a group of concerned residents and business owners are sending out this Newsletter in the South Gratiot area of Clinton Township and Mount Clemens between 14 Mile and Wellington Crescent. Anyone who wishes to join the South Gratiot Association can pay yearly dues of $35, which we use for events. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at the South Branch of the Public Library and everyone is welcome, our first meeting for 2005, will be held March 8.

Gratiot Corridor Highlights

 

 

During the past several months the Downtown Development Authority (D.D.A.) has been working along with its consultant, Archive DS on a Master Plan for Gratiot Avenue from 14 Mile Road to Wellington Crescent. At the January 12, 2005 meeting the D.D.A. will be presented with a draft plan for review and comments.

 

The intent of the plan is to identify deficiencies along the corridor and make suggestions for improvements (i.e. facade improvements streetscape etc.). Also the marketing analysis section of the plan will identify business and other opportunities that the D.D.A. may be able to attract to the corridor. Public comments will be sought prior to adopting a final plan document.

Aside from D.D.A. activities along the corridor the following development are currently underway or proposed:

 

 

Baker College:

 Purchased from Bill Lee Oldsmobile to provide Admissions Office and Classrooms. This location will provide, Interior Design, Graphics Communications, Emergency Medical Training and Automotive Service Technology.

 

Former Masburn Motor:

 Hertz Rent- A- Car is currently exploring occupying this site for auto rental.

 

Gordon Food Service:

 Purchased property on the east side of Gratiot and immediately south of Royal Motel. Will be breaking ground in the spring of 2005 on a 17,000 square foot retail outlet.

 

Pat Moran Chevrolet:

 Improvements to site underway. Including landscaping and additional pavement for vehicle storage     and display.

 

Tropicana Restaurant:

Currently rebuilding after it was destroyed by a fire this past year.

 

CVS Drug Store:

 Will be constructing a new facility at the site of the former ”Sign of the Beefcarver” Restaurant.

 

National City Bank:

 Currently looking at purchasing site of former Crown Furniture to construct new Bank Building (tentative).

 

Clinton Township Fire Station #1:

 Currently under construction between S.B. and N.B. Gratiot and north of Harrington, approximately 10,000 sq. ft. to be completed in Spring 2005.
