Are some people too clever by half?

Written by: J'Maybe Keens

It is a poor society that does not understand investment in its future through education is a fundamental driving force in the betterment of the society itself.  So why is Eve failing its most intelligent?

It seems there is a small but growing number of pilots in the universe that are finding themselves in a difficult position.

There accumulated knowledge is now so vast current clone technology is not able to supply the guarantees that in the event of clone activation all training will be recalled.

This is putting the most capable pilots in the universe in a serious predicament, the nature of memory failure in clones could mean a most vital skill is lost and considerable retraining would be needed.

This could have significant impact on the isk making potential for these people while they recuperate.  This might prove devastating to a small corp, if a key worker fell ill and so work could not be completed, leading to important contracts being cancelled.

I know of several such pilots that are thinking about remaining in the stations, intellectuals in ivory towers. Some are seriously curtailing activities in less civilized sectors of the universe, until some sort of resolution is reached on this matter.

Of course some will say, it is the pilots own fault, nobody forced them to learn anything, but that is the thinking of cave dwellers, we all wish to better ourselves, to learn new skills, or become better at old skills.  With ever increasing specialization required, combined with the need to really study for long periods of time to make the grade, it cannot be stressed enough how important it is this knowledge is not lost due to clone inadequacies.

Some in the community suggest this is an opportunity to allow other members of the pilots family to learn new skills.  This comes about because of the educational policy whereby only one member of a family can train at any given time.  This is okay if a pilot does have other family members he wishes to train.

But the side effect of this will be to put even more pressure on lab facilities and factories as often, second and third siblings are put to work in less glamorous areas of the Eve economy.

Others mumble about a conspiracy to “peg back” the brightest to let the slowest catch up.  While this might not be the intention it could well be a consequence of not releasing new clone technology.

There have been rumors about possible research being done to develop a higher-grade clone but as yet it has only remained rumor.  The clamor for action is going to increase as pilots reach or get near the theoretical limit of present cloning technology.

The lack of proper cloning facilities for Eve’s most talented should be addressed.  It should have been addressed before people reached this stage, it was entirely predictable it would happen.
