Letter: You are too Jaded

Dear Editor,

While I have always appreciated the efforts, and presentation, of your articles at Eve Guardian, may you never go away, I feel that you have done completely missed the huge indicator of looming social discord. I offer you this, the enclosed article, as representative of what should have been said instead of the mere skimming of the topic that was offered.

The CRC playing big-brother?

Every pilot in space knows what the Communications Relay Commission (CRC) is. For those relatively new to space, the CRC polices the official CONCORD Galnet. It {...GalNet...} consists of several forums that cover all aspects of daily life in EVE.

I would say as far as information and politicking goes, it is the most frequented {...place...} as well. They generally clean the place of garbage that often frequents the intergalactic network. This is an essential service, without these fine men and women of the CRC, the official Galnet would run amok with foul mouths and people who have taken one soothsayer pill too many.

However, it would seem that the CRC desires more. I think that the role of “moderator” has gone to their heads. An organization dedicated to keeping the peace of the CONCORD forums has begun making actions that would indicate a change of direction, one from moderation, to information control.

In essence playing the role of big-brother, controlling what everyone can see with smoke and mirrors.

The actions mentioned began with the noted gag-order imposed upon noted debater Jade Constatine.

The CRC, with one stroke banished the noted debater off of the CONCORD official forums for good. Similar to a police state, the reasons for doing so have been given in the forum of trumped up charges and summary dismissal without proper investigation.  The very last charge was actually added to the list TWICE in order to meet the 10 offence criteria for the gag-order! This reeks of a hurried and deliberate attempt to remove Jade from the forums without proper investigation into the charges laid out and the sentence examined.

While I have always had plenty of faith in CONCORD in the past, this instance diminishes that faith considerably. It would seem in this instance they have silenced a voice without provocation simply because they didn’t agree with it! I would guess that the CRC are now expressing their personal opinions on various political issues?

Perhaps, it gets better… and perhaps not.

A few days after this, another drastic move by the CRC takes place. This time the target is a private Galnet site owned and operated by the mOo corporation. They posted a journal on their own website and happened to post a text link on the official CONCORD forums. The link was removed even though none of the material was posted on the forums for anyone to read.

This means the CRC is now deciding what sites the public is and is not allowed to view? We are un-capable of thinking for ourselves and now require information to be spooned to us by big brother?

I think not!

Obviously this is another sham by the CRC to flex their muscle some more. Should the CRC be able to remove our ability for free speech and instead impose this police state upon us? I say they should not.

The public has a right to know everyone’s views, no matter if they are harsh, friendly, objective, subjective, or even downright rude. It’s one thing to toss out the pointless rhetoric or posts with a barrage of swear words, however it is quite another to trump up charges to impose gag-orders on people, and remove access to resources not related to CONCORD in any way.

If you feel the same way, then speak out against this change of “Moderation” and show them that a big-brother organization will not be tolerated in our galaxy!

Signed,

Pointing Out What You Missed

Dear Pointing,

We are glad to know that you find us suitable for most occasions. We, of course, defend the article regarding Ms. Constantine based upon her behavior and actions not simply on outrage out of percieved abuse of power by governmental agencies.

However, we are also troubled by the developing trends that you have pointed out.

We, Eve Guardian, also noted the censoring of m0o with much dismay. Immediately upon noticing this we did send a note, to the head of the CRC, regarding our concerns about the "expanded" interpretations being made, on the fly as it were, by those officials empowered under the auspices of the CRC. Often it seems that personal opinion, and not the published guidelines, are the ruling factor in recent activities.

However to be equally honest we do have faith in the organization itself. As they say, one error does not a case make. Or two, or three, or... ...
