Stain Dissolver: High Council Reforms

Written by: Shar Tegral

The Stain Alliance (SA) is a well known, and long lived, alliance. However besides the usual run of the mill propaganda not much is really known about SA internal affairs. So we must first examine what makes the SA work.

SA is run as an oligarchy. "Government by a few, especially by a small faction of persons" to be exact. This means that all decisions are made only by a select group of people, ala High Council. This High Council can, and sometimes may, listen to corporations not on the council itself but the High Council is exclusive. It may grant your request and it may turn it down. There is no appeal, there is no voting or democratic process.

What makes this alliance very difficult to understand, or relate to, is how a person, or corporation, may propel themselves upward in the SA. Good deeds are a definite plus however it is quite common for slander, deception, and corruption to be the real keys to power in the SA. Often enough any open discussion about the "mistakes", unintentional or intentional, is not just a reporting of the facts. It is an attack on the position of the corporation in question and, in some cases, upon their patron corporation.

As convoluted as it may sound even publicly calling out an alliance member, who is clearly doing the alliance harm, can cause a loss of status within the alliance. Thus often you'll see Stain personnel, from all corporations, vigorously defending the SA against any accusations. Justified or unjustified.

Basically in their efforts to get ahead.... they all follow the lemming trail. The leaders are there, that's where I want to be, who cares about where that really is.

This type of organization has often existed in the past and its internal codes of conduct leave well meaning people, or corporations, in a clear pickle. Do I speak out for what is right or do I keep my mouth shut and avoid getting hammered?

This is generally where services like Eve Guardian enters the fray. Many people will come to us, desperate that we won't report them to their superiors, and tell us what is going on. Sometimes these people are motivated by idealism, often it is something else.

This "something else" is a political maneuver that is often deployed internally as well. You find someone who is honest, sincere, and of good ethical fiber. You then proceed to give this person the facts, as you represent them, and then set your "stalking horse" on his own course. Gauging the nature of good people is not hard. If you prove to them that someone is lying they will often stand up and say, "liar".

Thus it is often that accusations are quite true when they appear. It is just "who gains" from the revelation that is the real question indeed. Of course for us, outsiders looking in, that is a very moot point. For those on the inside though it is often nerve racking and painful.

So it is, as it stands now, in fact a telling point that the SA High Council has dissolved. It will be even more telling which individuals gain the seats on the new High Council.

Those who reach such heights are those who play the game, by its rules, the best. So of course it is very likely that the best of the liars, deceivers, and thieves that will rise to the top. I admit it is presumptuous to describe it this way but we can only call it as we see it.

Only time will tell.
