Magazine & Publication Reviews

Eugene Magazine, Spring 2007 Publication - www.eugenemagazine.com
..Singer-Songwriter Halie Loren's music inevitably draws comparisons to that of Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Jewel and other pop divas of the Lilith sisterhood.  Never mind that Loren is only 22.  She is already a musical journeywoman with Nashville-bred chops studio savvy and prestigious songwriting awards dating back through her teens.
...Building on her first CD, Full Circle, released last July, Loren has crafted a musical niche for herself that blends intelligent jazz-infused, piano-rock melodies with her emotive and richly textured voice.  Her abilities cross over jazz and rock into blues, country and folk.  Versatility merits kudos for any musician--but add Loren's dynamic performance style, which combines powerhouse passion with confessional intimacy, and it's understandable why she's turned heads on stages in Nashville, New York, Seattle and other venues far beyond hometown Eugene.
...Young women of Loren's prodigious talents and potential are primed for offers from music industry moguls.  Loren is no exception ,,, but she is also humble and surprisingly resolute about her artistry.
..."Control over my music,' she avows, 'is very important to me.  I don't want to lose the thing that I'm most gifted with--and that's my creativity.  I don't want that to be compromised." (Mikael Krummel, Eugene Magazine)

Performing Songwriting Magazine, July/August 2007 Issue
..."Start with equal parts Joni Mitchell and Tori Amos, toss in a generous portion of Fiona Apple and a hint of Sarah McLachlan and you’ll have the perfect recipe for 22-year-old singer-songwriter Halie Loren. Her piano-based pop songs and rich vocals pay homage to those musical giants while still carving out a spot uniquely her own."
(Mare Wakefield, Performing Songwriter Magazine)

...“The album, "Full Circle," deserves a wide audience. It is an achievement in capturing Loren's vocal range, expressive, ethereal piano and heart-wrenching pop lyrics.” (Serena Markstrom, Ticket/Register-Guard)

...“She sings of love and struggle, like most performers, but with stories and poetry that are complex and accessible without relying on catchy repetitive hooks or obscurity needing Impressionistic interpretation.” (Mark Sabbatini, Juneau Empire)

...“Loren has a mature, rich voice that could easily be compared to Sarah McLachlan, diving to passionate depths and hovering over the tender notes. Coupling intriguing songwriting with a skilled musical ear, Loren is an exciting talent with songs that are fully formed and resonate as only songs based on experience can.” (Vanessa Salvia, Eugene Weekly)

..."It took about fifteen seconds for me to decide that 22-year-old Halie Loren was bound for greatness; that's the point at which quiet piano gives way to powerful voice on "Maybe I'll Fly," the first track on her stunning debut album, Full Circle. It's a voice that's been compared (deservedly) to greats like Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan and Joni Mitchell (who Halie delicately and wonderfully covers on Track 4, "River")... Rich, dark, bittersweet, and oh-so satisfying.
(Michael Fiegel, OnlineRock.com

..."The minute I put this CD in I liked it. It’s got a Norah Jones quality without Halie sounding like she’s copying Norah’s formula. The sound is one I refer to as comfortable jazz. It’s smooth, comfortable, and emotional. The kind of CD I could put on during a dinner party or romantic evening mixed in with Coltrane and not have to worry about. And as a drinker who enjoys a fine tequila this is the type of sound I could enjoy in a darkly lit bar and fall into the music and forget about the world around me. Captivating, emotional, without being overly moody." (Mike Cavanaugh, All Access Magazine)

.."Intelligent, sophisticated, and downright impressive contemporary alt-pop piano rock marked by McLachlan-esque vocals and captivating emotional intensity...As one might imagine, we receive a lot of independent releases for review consideration here at E4W. Yet few have been quite as impressive as Halie Loren's new release, Full Circle. An intelligent, sophisticated, and downright impressive collection of contemporary alt-pop piano rock tracks, Full Circle delivers, essentially, the full package: interesting musical arrangements, inspiring vocals, and clever lyricisms. It's absolutely delightful." (Carly Hope Finseth, Editor of Empowerment4Women, www.Empowerment4Women.org)

..."Halie gives more of herself in this one album than most performers do in their entire career." (Bruce E Von Stiers, BVSReviews)

..."I have a new favorite singer and her name is Halie Loren. Intelligent, unique, original, gifted, it's difficult to find enough words to describe the incredible talent of this young artist. Quite simply,   she is everything that is good about music...From the moment I heard her warm sensual voice and beautiful textured phrasing, I was completely blown away. Add to that her incredible songwriting and instrumental skills, you have a truly special young woman. One of those rare artists that I believe could take any song from any genre and make it her very own. This album is an absolute gem. Remember the name Halie Loren. I predict you will be hearing it many more times in the very near future."  (Rob Lardie, founder of CD Reviews By You, www.cdreviewsbyyou.com)

..."Halie is my new favorite artist over here at Whole Wheat Radio. Considering we air thousands of independent singer-songwriters and I'm somewhat immune because we hear so much music, that is the highest compliment I can give. I feel the same sort of wonder I felt when I first heard Eva Cassidy. I am stunned that Halie is only in her 20s. This is an artist I want to keep track of because once the world hears her, I think she has the talent and ability to be a major performer. I highly recommend this CD.”
(Jim Kloss, Whole Wheat Radio)

..."Halie Loren's album "Full Circle" is a wonderful mix of beautifully sad and upbeat, hopeful songs...Her voice is powerful, comparable to Sarah McLachlan.  Her words are poetic, and like Jewel, Halie can make you feel the exact emotion of which she speaks, taking the listener on a private journey into the depths of herself.  Halie plays piano effortlessly, and her band is a wonderfully supportive accompaniment, blending all of their sounds to make one artistic creation... Thank you for making music, Halie!  ( Kira Lutes & Gypsy Racco. Read full review at: Goddess Queen Magazine)

...I'm going to give her a compliment that I don't give very often because it means a great deal to me...but vocally she reminds me a lot of...(drum roll) Sarah McLachlan.  Yes, I said it. I don't compare many to The Great One but Loren deserves it... These songs are beautiful. They're lush, layered and intricate. Everything I love about music. They often go where you don't expect which, to me, is a pretty good indicator of a talented songwriter.  The piano composition and performances are divine." ..."Loren is an individual that makes an impact as a poet, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, and on top of all of that talent, sings like a woman on mission perfectly positioned to carry her story to the world via her music. She does it ALL very well.  With one listen to Full Circle, you will become a believer. It did not take long for me to realize I was listening to a special artist... I can be absolute about one thing, the lyrics are very powerful, and the piano playing lying underneath it all is the foundation from which the tracks come flowing forth like a river out of control with unyielding emotion… It’s obvious this woman has been through a lot, like many of us, and has no problem wearing her heart on her sleeve. And that is exactly why I admire her for what she is doing here. The best part about it all, besides the great lyrics, is that it comes at you set to sounds that are just as biting and attention grabbing. This is a great album, and one that needs plenty of recognition and a large audience to enjoy just as I did.”
(Keith "MuzikMan" Hannaleck.  Read full reviews at: http://www.muzikreviews.com)

..."Halie Loren's plush lyrics and striking expressive chords on the piano make you realize this is no ordinary 22 year old. Her music is deep and impactful. Prepare yourself for a voluptuous listening experience."  Brightside Broadcasting -Take a listen to the podcast at  www.brightsidebroadcast.com

...“ Halie Loren is very young, but her talent is already evident on this debut.  She has the skill to pen soulful songs and plays the piano beautifully...Loren's a real find and her album is a stunning record.” (Anna Maria Stjärnell, www.lunakafe.com)

...“There are twelve tracks on Full Circle and they all have two things in common: Ms Loren's moody piano, and some sharp lyrics. … Halie Loren can succeed in putting you right there in the moment. (Arhythmius, DJ, Female Front Radio-www.femalefront.com)

..."Halie's voice is so full it quivers with emotion.  To truly capture so much emotion in one's voice is true art, to express it is a gift indeed. The melody is as rich as the lyric and Halie's pliable voice does every note full justice weaving beauty into every measure... Halie's incredible voice, maturity in writing and phrasing belie her young years. Her music is perfectly suited for television and movie soundtracks and I expect that her songs will soon find their way into small and big screen productions.  'Full Circle' completes Halie’s first full length CD and it's a CD she should be proud of, and anyone would be proud to add to their collection."  (Annette Conlon, creator/host of Nette Radio - www.netteradio.com)

"... If you are looking for piano-driven alternative/pop rock with intelligent lyrics sung by a soulful, emotion-filled voice, look no further than Halie Loren 's latest release, Full Circle .  "Maybe I'll Fly" is reminiscent of Tori Amos's "Cornflake Girl," and other songs like the title track, " Full Circle ," and "Empty" have a definite Amos influence.  However, Halie Loren has her own unique pop style and flair.  On " Full Circle " she contrasts softer Tori Amos-like passages with a full alternative rock sound.  "Sand" is a spacey, rock song, and "Alone" and "Sisters" are heartfelt pop ballads.  "Pretty Truth" and "Lucky" are poppy, upbeat folk rock tunes, and Halie lets loose on the emotional alternative rocker, "Numb."  She even covers a Joni Mitchell song, "River."  There is something for everyone on Full Circle .  Definitely worth a listen!"

..."My first impression of this CD was total awe at the talent that Halie has. a smooth soulful jazz filled voice that is fused with perfect piano melodiesHalie takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride that will make you want to go again and again. The ride starts with 'Maybe I'll Fly' a song filled with such sadness from a bad relationship that you'll want  to cry with her. But heartbreak is not the only emotions you will feel while listening to this incredible CD..Halie also covers Joni Mitchell's 'River'. I'm normally not a fan of covers because there never as good as the original, but that is not the case. Halie does such a good job with this cover it would make Joni proud!" (Heather Burke, http://ravenentertainmentpromotions.com)
