Monet is from our first litter born here at Sheltonrae, and we couldn’t be more proud of how well she and her siblings turned out! Two of the three are in show homes...pretty awesome! A good breeder is always trying to improve the breed. No matter how great your breeding stock is, you really need to pick them apart; tweak what needs tweaking while trying not to mess with what’s best about them. Not easy to do. It took me months to find just the right stud to compliment Jenna. I’m not saying there aren’t good stud dogs out there, but not every great stud dog is right for every bitch. When it comes down to it, you have to literally pick the dog apart piece by piece, as well as pick apart your bitch. |

I ended up choosing “Keebler” from Bydand Kennels. Everything I love most about Jenna and wanted to keep...he had. Things I wanted to tweak on Jenna...he had that too. Not to mention not only does he come from a fabulous Top-Producing line that has set the standard, but they’re health-tested generations and generations back. Putting him with Jenna was the best match I could have done. My plan simply came together, and my time paid off. I got it all with Monet. While there’s no perfect dog out there, they sure can come close... and she’s most definitely one of them! |

Monet clearly has the six elements of Breed Type which you can clearly see in these pictures: Dark Almond eyes, moderate length of neck that blends beautifully into the shoulders, proper shoulder layback, slight rise in the topline, silky wavy coat and a lively, springy gait. At 8 weeks of age breeders take their first set of soaped pictures of their puppies to grade and evaluate them. As you can see in her soaps (even though she didn’t want to cooperate, ha-ha), she also has a perfect tail set, a straight front and nice angulations both fore and aft. She’s a VERY nicely put together Havana Silk Dog! Not to mention FLASHY! |

This picture is remarkable! She’s barely 4 weeks old here, and already you can clearly see how well balanced she is...simply meaning she’s put together perfectly! A puppy that can self stack this young is pretty fabulous! |

I call Monet my little sass-a-frass! If she were human, she’d be a red-head...and I can say that because I am one myself! lol Not only that, but she’d be a tomboy as well. She’s very loveable, sweet, loves to cuddle, play hard, and she’ll give kisses all day long, but definitely has a mind of her own! She’s fun, she’s always smiling and just very spunky. I think it will give her that extra something some dogs lack in the show ring. They show, but they don’t “show”...know what I mean? There’s no doubt in my mind that she will! She simply demands that all attention be paid to her! <grin>
After her show career is done, I HAVE to get her into agility! I think she was made for it. She jumps my baby gates, or if she feels like doing something different, she’ll climb them. Yes, climb them! lol When I’m cooking in the kitchen and she wants a bite of something, I hold it up almost shoulder level and she jumps right to it with out breaking a sweat. She’d jump higher no problem, but I don’t want her hurting herself.

Her 6 month birthday. She’s not much of a girlie-girl, so I don’t think I need to tell you how much she hates these bows being in her hair! lol |

2 Year Soaps 2008 Soaping is extremely important when evaluating your dogs. First soaps are usually done at 8-9 weeks of age. This helps us to confirm who is show/breeding quality. We don’t just breed whom ever for the sake of breeding. We breed only the best of the best in both temperament and to the standards set by the Havana Silk Dog Association. All of my dogs are healthy, but not all will be of breeding/show quality. Any breeder who tells you’re their expecting a show quality litter, or that ALL of their puppies are show quality is basically full of crap. I don’t think I’ve ever hear d of an entire litter being of show quality. You don’t know what you’re going to get. Even after they’re born it takes many weeks to see what is really there. In fact, things can change when they become adults. That’s why it’s important to re-evaluate your breeding hopefuls as adults to make sure things are right. Just because their puppy soaps look good doesn’t mean they’ll stay to standard as adults. I’m PROUD to say that Monet, as her mother Jenna, has stayed true to standard!! She has not only passed my standards, she was evaluated by the HSDAA and passed theirs as well with flying colors! It’s too hard to see under all the hair. Any dog can look great all fluffed up. My advice to you is before you buy from anyone, ask to see soaps of their breeding stock. You can’t hide imperfections when they’re soaped up! As you can see, Monet is still is beautifully balanced, has nice straight front legs, and is sound. She is going to be a definite asset to both the Havana Silk Dog breed to ensure high quality continues and to our breeding program here, to provide you with piece of mind that you will be receiving a healthy, happy, sound Havana Silk Dog. |
