I researched many toy breeds for about a year, but ultimately deciding the Havana Silk Dog was the best fit for our family. Then I found a reputable breeder that health-tested their dogs and I waiting 6 months for a puppy. It was a long wait, but it sure was worth it! I show Jenna on a limited basis in between dance competitions, softball and baseball games. It’s bonding time with her and I enjoy seeing my friends and their Silk Dogs. She’s not only pointed, but we’ve won her classes at not only our Regional specialty, but at our National Specialty as well! |

Jenna is a petite girl coming in on the smaller end of the Standard. She measures 9½” at the shoulders and 10” at the set of the tail. She also measures 11” from her shoulders to her rump, showing our standards “Straight but not level topline.” Jenna weighs in at 9½ lbs. She’s the perfect size! |
|
Jenna’s a beautiful bitch and a joy to watch in the ring. There are many things that make a Havana Silk Dog a Havana Silk Dog & when put together properly and she has them all...we call these the ‘Six Critical Elements of Breed Type.’ Dark almond eyes. Moderate length of neck that blends beautifully into the shoulders. (It doesn’t look like her head sits on her back.) She has proper shoulder layback and the slight rise in the topline that distinguishes our breed from other breeds from a distance. Her gait is lively, springy...elegant! Jenna has the ‘Profuse mantle of long, wavy, SILKY hair’ that our standard calls for! To run your fingers through her coat is to run your fingers through black silk. There’s simply nothing like it! Her coat is nothing short of gorgeous! The pictures are nice, but seeing and feeling is believing. You won’t find frizzy looking, dry, cottony feeling coats in my line. |

Let’s not forget about temperament! Hers is rock solid. She’s intelligent, alert, playful, loyal and oh-so-sweet! She absolutely loves everyone and anyone that meets Jenna instantly falls in love with her, and that’s something we want to pass on to her puppies along with everything else. Jenna takes her cues from us. If we want to go for an outing, she’s ready. If the kids want to play, she’s waiting with her favorite sock in her mouth (not that she shares it, but you can admire it. lol) When we just want to relax, read or watch TV, she’s ready for that too and lays at our side. Her temperament makes for a perfect, loving, loyal pet. We just love her to pieces!
To view Jenna from the side gives no mistake that she’s a Havana Silk Dog. She has the perfect outline! (See picture to left) She has a perfect self-stack, and like her sire, Ch. Salemi Charly, with her springy, elegant gait, her high head carriage and her black plumed tail arched gracefully over her back, she’s clearly poetry in motion! She’s very athletic as well. Her father is known for his jumping skills, but she also comes by it naturally from her dam. Her dam, Ch. Bonnetter’s J’Taime at Jimka CD NA NAJ HCA Versatility TDinc of Jimka , holds many agility and obedience titles, was the 2nd Havanese EVER to earn the HCA Versatility title, and is also a therapy dog! J’Taime, her owner and my dear friend Kay, have brought much joy and comfort to so many people. Their gentle, loving nature makes them perfect for therapy work, which is something we will most definitely be doing with Jenna in the future.
As a point of interest, Jenna’s sire, Ch. Salemi Charly of Bydand Kennels has sired over 50 champions to date and many more are “pointed”, meaning they’ve earned points towards their championships, like Jenna. This is more than ANY other Havanese in History!! Most importantly, Charly currently has 36+ CHIC offspring! WOW!! A Havana Silk Dog/Havanese can earn a CHIC# once they’ve completed the following heath tests...BAER, Patella, Hips, elbows and Cerf. One of Charly’s most known offspring is Ch. Elfin Magic, aka “Keebler”, Westimster’s 2004 Best of Breed Winner! (picture to the left). Clearly, Charly’s the man! Ü |
