Jaguar Club Concours d'Elegance, 6/13/2010, Middlefield, CTAwesome Vintage Jags’ Middlefield Muster!

The location of this event was the very well-known Lyman Orchards (http://www.lymanorchards.com/), located at the Junction of Routes 147 & 157 in Middlefield, CT. The show itself had been publicized in on the Lyman Orchards web site's "events" page:

"...Jaguar Club Car Show!...Sunday, June 13, 2011; 9am-4pm....Enjoy viewing these beautiful luxury cars up close! Presented by the Jaguar Club of Southern New England, prizes will be awarded to best cars in show..."

I had been to this show in the past a couple of times, and since I was in the area,, I made a point of stopping by to admire the automobiles. It was also the same day as the Central CT Region AACA’s great antique car show in Glastonbury (but that’s a subject for another time…).

Though I could not stay around there for very long, I did make sure to distribute as many Time Machines 2010 flyers as I could, and since I had my camera with me (having returned from the wonderful old car photo-op up at the CCR-AACA’s G-bury event), I also took the time to snap a few pictures at the gathering of these very beautiful and exclusive Jaguar automobiles that were wonderfully displayed on the rolling lawns surrounding Lyman Orchards.

Among the array of beautiful Jags, I took some extra notice of one very beautiful oldie in particular, a 1949 XK-120 “Alloy Roadster,” in black with black top, and tan interior—it was an absolute show-stopper (among many show-stoppers)! From the display board that was set up adjacent to the vehicle, I learned the following key facts:

“…It is one of only about 50 of these in existence… it is one of only 242 produced…all its number match… and it was the fastest production car of its time…”

Additional descriptive info from the display board was as follows:

“…Following World War II, Jaguar believedthe future was in sedans. The XK-120 Roadster was conceived as a low-volume dream car, and the body was hand made of aluminum. By 1950, the demand was so great that Jaguar increased production and began making steel bodies. XK series Roadsters were produced through 1961…”

This particular magnificent 1949 model was indicated to be owned by Paul and Jan-Gee McCollam of Glastonbury, CT. There were also AACA national award badges visible attached tothe front bumper, indicating a First Junior Award in 2001, plus a Senior Award tab…and then also a Grand National Award in 2002, plus a Senior Grand National tab—wow, talk about credentials! I thoroughly enjoyed checking this car out and was thoroughly impressed!

Doing some additional research, I have since learned that the event was called the “Jaguar Club of Southern New England’s Concours d’Elegance,” part of the organization’s “Annual Concours Weekend” (the club’s “Biggest Annual Event”), that took place June 12th & 13th, 2010. The Jaguar Club of Southern New England’s official web site can be accessed for additional information: http://www.jcna.com/clubs/main.php?club=ne08&Vref=ne08. At the time of the creation of this web page, there was also a results page published by the JCSNE, which you can also access at: Published Concours Results page - http://www.jcna.com/clubs/results.php?club=ne08&Vref=ne08&showdetails=849#resdet .

Our hat is off to them for one positively spectacular automotive gathering! We're going to watch for it again next year, and if we're in the area, we will definitely be stopping in again...

As a postscript to this story--it was a pleasant surprise, before I left the Jag event, to run into our friend, the notable vintage British car-enthusiast from the Shoreline area, Bob Howard, who had driven there in his super cool ’52 MGTD. I had the thrill of snapping a few “action” pictures of Bob and his '52, as I followed them south out of the Middlefield Jaguar gathering. Click HERE for a sample image. Bob, of course, is also a long-time mainstay of the CT MG Club--be sure check out their official web site at: http://mgclub.homestead.com/ .
