*We are now in process of building up our 2015 event listings... The 2015s are now back to being highlighted in RED... As always, we welcome you to please send us your CT Shoreline-area old car event listings!

This Calendar is originated and periodically updated by the Shoreline Antique Auto Connection, a not-for-profit enterprise run for antique auto enthusiasts, by antique auto enthusiasts. As the information presented here is gleaned from a WIDE variety of sources, there is no way we can vouch for the truth or accuracy of anything, and we STRONGLY suggest you get in touch with the applicable event contacts listed, to make sure the event is indeed going to be held (especially before you make a long trip to attend!). Thank you. SAAC, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, e-mail CommonGear@aol.com, web site http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/SAACMainPage.html . Please send your CT Shoreline-area event listings for inclusion here (non-marque-specific events preferred).

WHY DO WE DO THIS? - We maintain this Calendar as a service to our fellow local-area antique auto enthusiasts! It's not perfect, but we always work hard at it, and try to verify as much as possible everything that we publish. And we love to share it! We are not professionals at this--only enthusiasts who enjoy the old car hobby. What would really make us happy, however, is that those who may copy and paste our listings for their own use please occasionally give us a little bit of a shout-out! Thanks for your understanding and support! See you out there at the shows & cruises!

FEBRUARY 1, 2015, Sunday, Essex37th Annual Essex Ed Groundhog Parade, 2pm, Main Street, Essex Village, Essex, CT. Quoting from the listing we recently found on the Essex Board of Trade official web site (http://www.essexct.com/events.php): “… Bring your pots and pans and be a part of this lively Essex tradition! The 37th Annual Essex Groundhog Parade begins at 2pm, rain or shine…” webmaster’s note – I’ve also uploaded a highlighted screen shot of that EBOT web site announcement, which you can view online now at: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/1Feb2015EssexEdGroundHogParade-HighlightInfo.JPG ... I’ve attended this really fun parade for the past couple of years as a spectator, although it should be noted that several really cool antique automobiles do typically participate in the parade—here are a couple of pictures I took from the 2013 version: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/EssexEdPrd13Cars1-1k.JPG - and http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/EssexEdPrd13Cars4-1k.JPG - and http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/EssexEdPrd13UpStreet-1k.JPG ... Additional thinking - Here are my thoughts on what I personally would like to do this year, which is the same thing we did last year, thanks to the ideas & suggestions from our friend Jim D’Alessio of the Essex Board of Trade (& also proprietor of the J. Alden Clothiers company that is also located in the center of town, ref: http://jaldenclothiers.com/); here’s a direct quote from Jim, from last year’s discussions about planning for antique autos in the parade: “…For those with classic cars that come to town early, (12:30-1pm) even if they don't feel the need to be in the parade, but just want to show their cars off, it always looks nice to have these great vehicles simply parked on Main Street during the parade. Personally, if there are a lot of vehicles I think that’s the best option)… All things for you to discuss with your interested participants… Thanks again for your interest… Jim D'Alessio..." We got to town around noon-ish last year, parked our old VW Bug in a great spot right along Main Street, and then did a really enjoyable walking tour of the town for a couple of hours leading up to the 2pm start of the parade. So, at that point, we had a prime spot, everyone saw our car, and we got to see all of the parade! Anyway, think about it, and if you have an interest in actually participating with your old car, I would probably suggest to get in touch with EBOT and/or Jim, to see what the possibilities and options are, from his perspective… Final thoughts – Things I really love about this is that it’s a mid-winter festival, involving old cars, lots of happy people, in a wonderful little town. As I said, I hope to make it back there this year! (this event was added to this calendar as of 1/13/2015)

FEBRUARY 1, 2015, Sunday, Glendale (ARIZONA) Super Bowl XLIX, at the University of Phoenix Stadium, in Glendale, Arizona. I can’t think of a better way to spend a chilly winter Sunday, and can’t wait to get back there again for the 2015 version!  (this event was added to this calendar as of 11/18/2014)

We remember that last year (2014) this parade was announced in the Belltown Antique Car Club’s official newsletter, “The Belltown Bulletin,” and I had been planning to head out there to participate in the parade with my old car, so had been in touch with Mary Ellen, who had been very helpful in facilitating this. Unfortunately at the last minute (due to family related events) I found out could not do it. I am hoping to be able to do it this year, however, and will be contacting Mary Ellen Barnes again soon to see if it’s possible. We love the town of Essex, and the spirit of its townspeople and civic leaders—not only as evidenced by this event, but also the “Essex Ed Groundhog Parade,” which is also a ton of fun every year! We also went ahead and uploaded a copy of the flyer to our server, where it is now viewable at the following clickable link:  http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/18April2015WingsOfHopeHamdenPastaFundraiser.jpg ... Another important part of the flyer was also a section describing in detail the various health situations that David has been battling courageously (with Dawn’s help), and so we also made a separate scan of that, which you can view in an enlarged format (it is kind of “fine print” at the bottom of the original flyer) at the following clickable link: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/18April2015WingsOfHopeFlyerBackgroundInfo.jpg ... Additional information - We first heard about David Gagnon last year around this time, when our friend Jody Wilk forwarded to us a copy of the original flyer for the “Wings Of Hope For David Gagnon” July 2014 North Haven car show flyer, an event which my son Matt and I had a great time attending, and which really opened our eyes about what a significant talent in the world of hot rod and high performance racing engine building that David Gagnon is (Jody is just one of many who enjoy bulletproof high horsepower David Gagnon Racing Enterprises engines in their rides), not just in Connecticut (DGRE is based in Hamden, reference: http://dgreshop.com/), but far beyond as well. We have been following closely David’s courageous progress, with Dawn’s great help, toward full recovery over the past year, and are so impressed and inspired, and so we are so pleased to be able to help spread the word about this wonderful event, which undoubtedly help David and Dawn continue to fight the good fight, both financially and spiritually. And we wish to also add: “Great Job!” by Marty Onofrio and everyone involved with making this wonderful event happen! (this event was added to this calendar as of 3/20/2015)

APRIL 19, 2015, Sunday, New CanaanCaffeine & Carburetors, “…a gathering of automotive enthusiasts at Zumbach's Gourmet Coffee,” happening on selected Sunday mornings during the season, starting at 8am, downtown New Canaan, CT… webmaster’s note - I signed up for their mailing list a couple of years back, and per a February 2015 broadcast e-mail heads-up, Caffeine & Carburetors (www.caffeineandcarburetors.com) has announced the first two dates of its 2015 schedule, and we are pleased to quote excerpts from a broadcast e-mail dated 2/25/2015, from Todd Brown (todd@109cheeseandwine.com) of the C&C team: “…Welcome to the 2015 C&C Season… Our first gathering will be April 19th in the Town of  New Canaan on Pine & Elm… We have also confirmed a September 13th date for Pine & Elm… The Waveny Park dates are still being discussed and we will release them as soon as they are confirmed... We also plan on doing a Father’s Day event at Lime Rock park too!...” Additional thoughts – I’ve never actually been to one of these, but “Pine & Elm” I believe refer to streets in the center of town that have lots of parking areas, and “Waveny Park” I believe is also a large park that is also in town. Sure am hoping to make it to one of these events this coming season!... The article did a great job of telling about what a superb dedicated patriot and veteran Kenny Fletcher was, and all the positive things he did for his fellow soldiers and fellow man. I was able to locate the Press article online, and you can read it yourself at the following link: http://www.middletownpress.com/general-news/20110426/cruise-night-to-honor-portland-army-veteran-who-died-of-cancer - and there was also this great photo that went along with it, with the following caption: "...Submitted photo Kenneth Fletcher 1SG, far right, is pictured in Balad, Iraq, with Jesse James, Spc. Additional information - The exact address for Yogurt N More is listed as 855 Forest Rd, Northford, CT 06472, and with telephone 203-208-5049. We've had so much fun attending this event over the past many years, either as car show participants or spectators--the CT Classic Chevy Club does a positively magnificent job with it--superbly organized, fantastic venue, great entertainment, and of course, tons and tons of spectacular show vehicles that always turn out (Example--Check out this "typical" scene that I shot back at  the 2011 version of the event--and this is just a small part of the overall show! Box this afternoon, to find not only the Branford Veterans Day Parade Committee's very gracious snail mail invitation to the 2015 Branford Memorial Day Parade for antique automobiles (see the 5/25/2015 listing for Branford below), but also a snail-mailed copy of the official CT Classic Chevy Club Quinnipiac Hamden Memorial Day Weekend Car Show printed flyer! VERY cool! We fired up the old scanner and tried to make some reasonably high resolution copies of all sides of it, to hopefully bring out additional event details and information for everyone's use, regarding this great event. The flyer consisted of a tri-fold presentation, utilizing both sides of an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper. The two outer panels that you see, in the as-received condition are shown here: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/24May2015HamdenQUMemorialDayFlyerOutside2.jpg ... Once you open it up, the third panel on that side of the paper is this vertical-format mini-flyer: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/24May2015HamdenQUMemorialDayFlyerOutside1.jpg ... And finally, the entire other side of the paper is a full-page flyer, with lots and lots of details--AND a car show pre-registration form, which you can use to pre-register your vehicle and save $'s (note also the May 17th pre-registration deadline), which is viewable here:  http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/24May2015HamdenQUMemorialDayFlyerInside.jpg ... We also went ahead and added a cropped and enlarged scan of the "fine print" from that side of the flyer, containing directions, and some other event details, viewable here: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/24May2015HamdenQUMemorialDayFlyerInsideCrop.jpg ... So, there you have it, and we thank our friends at the Connecticut Classic Chevy Club for keeping us on the mailing list for all the latest up-to-date info on this fine event... (this event was added to this calendar as of 4/9/2015)

MAY 25, 2015, Monday, Branford - The Branford Memorial Day Parade, 10am, Branford Town Green, Branford, CT... webmaster's note - I am just adding this as a "placeholder" for now, because I have not seen any official notices about the event yet from the Branford Veterans Parade Committee. In previous years, they would send us an invitation/information package about parade participation, which we'd, in turn, list here on the SAAC Calendar, regarding "independent" antique auto participation (meaning if you are an antique automobile owner who wish to participate and are not connected with any "civic group," per se, since there are various town groups that often do employ old cars and/or trucks as part of their group). Speaking for myself, I always enjoy participating in this parade with my antique auto (Branford does such a great job with this event in general, and it's a special privilege to be able to help honor and remember our Veterans who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country), and am not representative of any "group," so I am always interested in finding out the details of how to go about participating with an old car. I may write to the Committee eventually, to make sure that they are keeping us on the mailing list for announcements, but for now, just wanted to add this as a placeholder... *4/9/2015 UPDATES - Very exciting to find an envelope in our mailbox today with the return address of "Branford Veterans Parade Committee," care of John I. Cooke (looks like a couple of postmarks, so not sure when it got sent, ref: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/25May2015BranfordMemDayParadeEnvelope.jpg), and upon opening it, we found a nice cover letter and entry form for groups and organizations. Since our individual antique automobiles are not "groups," per se, I'm certainly not planning on filling out the entry form nor sending it--and never have done so in the past either (here is a link to our scan of the entry form that I mentioned, for your info: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/25May2015BranfordMemDayParadeEntryForm.jpg). But we are very pleased to accept these materials as our invitation for antique automobiles once again to participate in the 2015 Branford Memorial Day Parade, which is fantastic! The cover letter (here's our scan of it: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/25May2015BranfordMemDayParadeLetter.jpg) also provides us with important information about the times that things are planned to happen. Referring to the cover letter, the Parade Committee likes groups/participants to be present by 9:30am, so that all can partake in the always-meaningful and touching pre-parade speeches and invocations. The parade step-off is listed as 10:00am. Now, as far as where to aim for with your antique car when you show up, and again referring to my own past experiences, we will assume for now (unless we hear back from Mr. Cooke and/or the Committee--I am planning to send them a copy of this full listing for their review) that Town Hall Drive, which is the little diagonal road that outlines the south and west perimeter of the Branford Town Green, will be the staging point for antique cars who show up to participate, and it's also "wrong way" (cars facing west on this normally one-way eastbound street), based on past experiences also. As far as what time to get there, my advice is to keep those above-mentioned times from the cover letter in mind, but also, the earlier you can get there, the better, since sometimes the police like to block the Green area off from general traffic, as the parade time gets closer. Finally, if you are thinking about participating with your antique car, be aware that the day is usually quite hot, and the parade moves along at a very slow pace (walking pace, obviously) for approximately 2 miles or so, total, with a small stop in the middle for a few minutes, which means that if you have any overheating concerns with your car, you'd better think about opting out of actually participating (my best advice, anyway), but it's still a more-than-fantastic event to be a spectator at! What could be better than showing your American patriotic spirit and showing support for our country's military veterans, both living and deceased, in such a beautiful little town as Branford, Connecticut?! We very much appreciate the Branford Veterans Parade Committee thinking of us again this year, with the invitation for antique automobiles to be a part of this positively magnificent town event! (this event listing was added to this calendar as of 4/9/2015)

Rain date = June 7th... webmaster’s note – Thanks to the EJK Car Show organizers for getting the word out nice and early this year—we just saw the notice posted at the official EJK Car Show Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/EJK-Car-Show/223223281098023) in early March of this year, and are doing our best to get it onto our calendar ASAP so that folks can get started planning early to attend and/or participate. A low-resolution image of the flyer was included with that Facebook posting, which we copied and uploaded to our server (clickable link at: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/6June2015EJKCarShowFlyerImgFmFB.jpg), and it clearly shows the main details (date, rain date, hours and location), however we were not able to read much beyond that, due to the fine print. But based on what was published for Last Year’s (2014) EJK show, we will make mention that the 2014 fees were: $10 donation for car show entries, $1 donation spectators, 12 & under free... (we will certainly be double-checking this information for the 2015 event, whenever we can track it down & confirm it)… Additional information - Please also be sure to visit the official internet home page for the EJK Car Show online at: http://ejkcarshow.com/ - and, once again, please also be sure to check out the official EJK Car Show Facebook page for any & all updates that may get posted there as well: https://www.facebook.com/pages/EJK-Car-Show/223223281098023 ... Kalber (“EJK”), and which benefits a Xavier High School scholarship award in Eric’s name--and the simple fact is that it’s a fantastic car show as well!... *4/4/2015 UPDATES - Per the 4/2/2015 posting that   the EJK Car Show organizing crew placed on their official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/EJK-Car-Show/223223281098023): "...Steve, wanted to let you know that the 10th will be the last unless someone knows of a Club that might want to take it over. Thank you so much for all the help you've given us over the years!..." As I noted in my original response to this news, ten years is a lot of effort. You did a magnificent job, and should be very proud. I also noted that I would help spread that word. If there are any clubs or organizations that might be interested in finding out more about becoming involved with this event, check in with the team at their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/EJK-Car-Show/223223281098023 - or at their official web site: http://ejkcarshow.com/ - and the "Contact Us" page there also: http://ejkcarshow.com/contact ... JULY 4, 2015, Saturday, MadisonThe Madison Exchange Club Presents The 32nd Annual Madison 4th of July Parade, 11am-4pm, downtown Madison. webmaster’s note – We saw this event listed on the Madison Exchange Club’s official web site (http://www.madisonexchange.org/), within the Calendar section (http://www.madisonexchange.org/Home/calendar). The “location” for the parade is listed on the Exchange Club’s web site as “798 Boston Post Road, Madison, CT,” which appears to be right about at the intersection of so Wall Street and Route 1 (I think the Post Office and the Library are at that intersection, if you are familiar with Madison) I would guess you’d have to obtain more info from the Exchange Club about where to go for pre-parade staging, and/or to find out if you needed to pre-register to participate with your antique car, etc., etc… CHECK THAT: I just found an event information page—or rather, a “Group Registration” page from last year’s parade, which gives more details about the event—at least as far as how last year was organized. Quoting from the page (http://www.eventbrite.com/e/madison-exchange-independence-day-parade-registration-11069865265): "...The Parade will follow the usual route along Boston Post Road to the Surf Club, parade step off will be 11 AM. Formation time is 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM in the Super Stop & Shop parking lot behind the stores on the Boston Post Road… Official web site: madisonexchange.org/parade… Parade registration deadline: July 2, 2014… Parade group formation: 9:30-10:45am… Parade step-off: 11:00am… Please note we have a new special category for neighborhoods or groups that would like to participate in a float competition, the entry fee will be $25.00 and prizes will be awarded to the top three float provided we get enough entries. I hope that this can bring a new excitement to the parade this year… The picnic area at the Surf Club is a great place to relax after the parade and enjoy Madison’s traditional family time at the beach. Please bring your own tables and cooking gear…” The person who posted that info was listed as Parade Chairman Mike Catalano of the Exchange Club, but we do NOT know if he’s going to be the Chairman for the 2015 event. But, we also checked out that “Official Website” (http://www.madisonexchange.org/parade), and found more good info about the parade (including an actual map of the parade route), from which we’re pleased to excerpt: “…Featuring nearly 100 community groups, floats, bands, clowns, antique cars, trucks (webmaster’s note – That was MY UNDERLINING there!), bicycles and a number of professional performance groups, Madison’s 4th of July Parade is recognized as one of the finest in the entire State of Connecticut.  As in the past, we again hope to attract a host of youth organizations who will march in one of the many causes of having Madison build a younger, stronger and wiser base of its population.  We hope to see some creative floats and fresh ideas that bring more of a directed focus on how youth groups can contribute to our society today and to its future growth tomorrow… Come join us in the Town of Madison’s finest moment of community celebration and dedication to its future!...” Very cool!.. I think what I will do next is write to Mike Catalano at the Exchange Club address (P.O. Box 644, Madison, CT 06443), and let him know that I’m putting this on the SAAC Calendar, and ask if he has any advice or info regarding antique automobile/truck participation in the 2015 version—and any important new info or updates we will, in turn, add to this listing… Additional info – We also found a nice page of great photos from the 2014 parade published by the local antique police car club—check ‘em out online at: http://www.policecars.us/Madison_4th_Parade_2014.html ... (this event was added to this calendar as of 1/5/2015)

CRUISE NIGHTS (& Other Recurring Car Gatherings)

IMPORTANT: Since the world of Cruise Night listings seems to be especially filled with old, out-of-date information--which has, on occasion, led to frustrating drives to non-existent cruises (we speak from direct personal experience!)--we've decided to do our best to only list confirmed listings (though we still urge you to call ahead before making any long trips, since we cannot guarantee anything), which we'll clearly highlight with a noticeable color--we have been alternating red and fuchsia in recent years to highlight the most recent years' listings. *3/17/2015 UPDATE - back to red for the new 2015 listings!!... Anyway, now that it's the New Year, if you have any confirmed 2015 cruise event listings, please send us yours--especially those Shoreline-oriented, for inclusion here--Thanks!... Please do be very careful to note that some of last year's 2014 listings are still here--we have NO INFORMATION about whether or not the 2014 listings are still valid or not, but we are leaving them in place for now, in case they might be useful for reference/who to contact to request 2015 info from, etc...

** FRIDAYS, North Branford (** = confirmed for 2014) – “McDonalds and Dairy Queen of North Branford Cruise Night,” 280 North Branford Road, North Branford, CT, telephone 203-481-6237. Every Friday, starting May 2nd, during the Summer of 2014, 6:00pm to 9:00pm, hosted by Rockin’ Richard. “…Show off your wheels, have a burger, and top it off with a blizzard, or just come down to hang out with your friends… This is THE place to be on Friday nights in North Branford… Check out the cars and enjoy the music… Cruise Night will be scheduled every Friday night, weather permitting…” webmaster’s note – I can’t tell you how cool it was to hear about this event announcement for 2014, when our local old car buddy Harry Debernardo told me about it at the WPLR car show in mid-April of this year—and he had a flyer that he let me take, so that I could scan it and include the link in this listing (Thanks again Harry!). Click on the following link to bring up a copy of the scanned flyer: http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/2014NorthBranfordMcDsAndDQCruiseFlyer.jpgAdditional thoughts - It also goes without saying that Rockin’ Richard is a local music legend, and does a great job of spinning the tunes, and keeping the party rolling along. We are VERY psyched to hear about this event for 2014, which now includes the Dairy Queen as part of the official hosts, so that’s going to be one rocking parking lot, there at the corner of Routes 80 and 139 in North Branford this summer!!! (this cruise listing was added to this calendar as of 4/14/2014)

It’s a nice ride out there, and very easy to get to, just on the north side of the Groton Sub Base. I would definitely come back to participate with an old car, and I’d definitely come back for some more of that fantastic Cows & Cones ice cream too—it was FANTASTIC!... As we may be able to obtain any further details, about the 6/22 date, and/or the two future dates listed in the announcement (7/26 & 8/16, which we looked on our calendar to find out are Saturdays), we will update this listing as quickly as possible… Additional info – We noticed that Last Year’s version of the event was posted on East Hampton Patch: http://easthampton-ct.patch.com/groups/announcements/p/east-hampton-classic-car-show - although we have not been able to find an online listing for the 2014 version so far yet… Here also is a post-event review article from Reminder News that we found online about Last Year’s version that was held October 25th, 2013: http://www.remindernews.com/article/2013/10/28/classic-car-show-draws-visitors-to-east-hampton-village-center – and, reading the article, I am very impressed at the spirit of the organizers and what they aim to achieve with these great-sounding, casual & low-key, village old car gatherings! I’m going to try to make it to one or more of them this season! (this “recurring event” listing was added to this calendar as of 6/19/2014)
