From an e-mail dated 12/14/2007 from Michael C Boardman, boardman@us.ibm.com : "1973 VW Thing For Sale $6,000 Or Best Offer...Selling my 1973 VW Thing for $6,000 or best offer. I purchased it a few years ago for a summer beach car for my family. It has been garaged 100% of the time I've had it (stored for the winter each year) and driven lightly each summer. The prior owner put in a brand new engine which only has approx. 2-3k miles on it. I had a brand new custom exhaust installed this year, and a new top this year. Since there was a minor oil drip when I purchased it due to improper seating of gaskets and since my wife threaten to divorce me if any more oil dripped on our garage floor, I had the engine pulled this year and all new gaskets installed and the engine serviced. All fixed. Body has been repainted and is in great shape . . . not "show quality" but very nice. Minor blemishes, none are significant. Definitely catches peoples' eye! I have new floor pans and front seat rails that have not been installed but will be sold with the car. Seats are in great shape with no major tears or rips. One or two minor holes (back seat) but good shape. Also installed new battery this year. Overall, great driver and loads of fun for the family. Feel free to call or email with any questions. WANTED

From the webmaster's own notes, dated 8/19/2009): "...I'm on the lookout for a really nice, later-model Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible, say '68 or later model year. And more specifically, I am hoping to (someday?) find a nice, original, unmolested, and perhaps even low-miles (I can dream, can't I?) example of such a Karmann Ghia Convertible, with the idea of using it as a summertime nice-weather driver--could anything possibly be cooler?! Ha ha! Anyway, I would appreciate your please keeping your eyes open for me (ideally something within a reasonable driving distance so that I could go and look at it first-hand)--and thanks for your help! Steve from SAAC, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405 or CommonGear@aol.com ..." (this ad posted 8/19/2009)

From the Webmaster's own notes, dated 11/16/2008: "Decent restorable original antique VW wheel rims in size 16" diameter x 3" width. These would've been original equipment on early split window Beetles, pre-1953. I'm looking to assemble a decent set to refinish and use on my 1950 Bug. Definitely would consider singles, pairs, what-have-you. Needing hubcap clips ok too-I am able to reclip. For reference, I've scanned a couple shots of the 16" wheels I'm looking for, from a past refinishing project, which are clickable as follows: two-toned 16" wheel with whitewall tire mounted, two-tone wheel & ww tire on car w/o hubcap, and finally, the same combo mounted on the car, with a hub cap fitted. Thanks for any help in finding any of these 16" VW wheels! Please contact Steve c/o Shoreline Antique Auto Connection, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, or email CommonGear@aol.com ." (this ad posted 11/16/2007)

From the Webmaster's own notes, dated 10/28/2008: "Any info, old pictures, newspaper articles, race programs, and/or any other items or memorabilia, etc. (originals or copies), pertaining to the Chatham, Massachusetts dune buggy racing scene back in the late 1960s/early 1970s, in the sand pit near the town dump, off of Route 28. I was there as a kid, and would love to reconnect a bit with that old scene. Please contact Steve c/o Shoreline Antique Auto Connection, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, or email CommonGear@aol.com . Thanks!" (this ad posted 10/28/2007)

From the Webmaster's own notes: "I would like to find some Michelin XZX radial tires in size 165R15. Having visited Coker's web site, however, I already know there is no way I can afford new ones. So, I'm hoping I can perhaps gradually assemble a good usable set of used ones. If you are familiar with XZX's, you already know why they are unique and desirable by us "tire-heads." I would call them a true "old school performance radial." THIS IMAGE illustrates the Michelin XZX tread design. A couple of other Michelin XZX images that I gleaned from the internet, to hopefully further illustrate what I'm looking for are viewable by clicking HERE and HERE (that second one being the actual image from the Coker web site). Again, the size I'm looking for is 165R15, and I would also like to steer clear of any age-cracked tires, since I do a fair amount of highway driving with my old '68 VW Bug. If you have, or know of any of this size Michelin XZX avaialble out there in decent, usable (& non-age-cracked) condition--even singles, pairs, etc.--please do drop me an e-mail. Thanks, Steve from SAAC." (this ad posted 8/14/2007)

From a posting to the Shoreline Antique Auto Connection web site's guest book on Wednesday, 2/7/2007; the sender was referred by a search engine, and reported their location to be Hartford, CT: "...Hello, My name is Gina Starks. I am Mrs. New England American Dream 2007. I will be participating in the New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade in front of 25,000 spectators on March 11th. The parade will air on March 17th to over 600,000 viewers on MyTV Channel 9 in Connecticut. I am interested in teaming up with Shoreline Antique Auto Club for this event. I can provide you essentially free advertising by way of signage (I would provide with use of your logo) on the sides of one of your Antique convertibles or as a banner being walked in front and back of the car. The use of one of your cars in the parade will provide Shoreline Antique Auto Club the opportunity to reach the entire state of Connecticut and let people know more about your antique automobiles. Please feel free to visit my website and the New Haven St. Patrick's Day website to get a better feel for the advertising opportunity that this would provide: http://www.mrsnewengland2007.com - http://www.stpatricksdayparade.org/ . Thank you for your time and feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. I look forward to the possibility of working with you! From an e-mail dated 11/21/2007 from reprospectives@heritage-consultants.com : "...Classic Car Storage Facility...A business partner and I are considering starting a classic car storage facility. Both of us are car enthusiasts and both have had issues related to storage in the past, namely inadequate facilities and/or a need to have our own garages clear for off-season projects. I am writing to you with the request that you poll your club members to determine how many (if any) might use such a facility, what amenities they would like to see in the facility, and roughly what they would be willing to pay for the service(s) provided. We envision this facility, at least at this early stage, as containing enclosed, individual parking bays with work benches (as well as outside storage areas if requested), a car wash, detailing services available on request, and a lounge where patrons could meet and exchange information. All of this would of course be subject to 24 hour security. We also have entertained the idea of completing consignment sales of vehicles on site for the facility patrons a their request. Finally, we feel that, if successful, such a facility would be suitable for weekly cruise nights and swap meets. We are currently seeking suitable facilities in the greater Hartford area. We would very much appreciate any input from you and your club members! David George..." Contact: reprospectives@heritage-consultants.com (this ad posted 11/30/2007)
