FOR SALE

From a notice posted by the SAAC webmaster, October 2014: "...FOR SALE: Set of Four Used, Great Condition 16-inch All-Season Radial Tires… Four very nice condition, matching Continental brand "ContiProContact" all-season tires, which came off my 2001 Subaru Forester S, as I’ve decided to break down and refinish the original alloy wheels from the car (and eventually fit some new tires, once the wheels are done). The tires being advertised for sale here are the ones that were taken off of those wheels. The size designation for these tires is P215/60R16, and I noticed the script "Made in USA" on them also. As noted, they were on the car when I bought it in the fall of 2013, so I don't know the miles on them, but they look really fresh, roll completely smoothly, and hold pressure perfectly. My asking price for all four is $25 (price has been reduced as of 10/29/2014--need to move these tires along...), and I am located in Branford... Here are hyperlinks to some uploaded photos (sorry for not better shots--these are the best I could come up with on short notice): Overall appearance on the car = http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/01SubyForesterTireOverallAppearance.JPG ... Size designation and some general sidewall detail = http://home.comcast.net/~shorelinesteve/01SubyForesterTireSize.JPG ... Any interest, please e-mail me: CommonGear@aol.com ..." *11/24/2014 UPDATE - These tires are now no longer available, having gone on to a new owner... (this ad posted 10/20/2014; price reduction as of 10/29/2014; updated to indicate tires are now GONE as of 11/24/2014)

Presenting 'Vintage Details': Cool old-style metal valve stem caps--the 'finishing touch' for your correct vintage restoration--or just an 'old school touch' for your favorite ride. Right now I have these three styles discussed below available, and quantities are limited, though I am working on more, and possibly different styles, 'as we speak'... Here are a couple of overall pictures that compare & contrast our current offerings: Main image showing three styles of 'Vintage Details' currently-available caps - http://images.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/4771084.jpg ... Same three styles, three-quarter view this time, with identification - http://images.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/4771085.jpg ... Style B = $15 for five; as-installed picture - http://images.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/4771087.jpg ... Style C = $16 for five (Style C is very similar to B, but with a very slight 'barrel' shape to the knurled area, and also with a slightly duller, more 'white' overall finish); as-installed picture - http://images.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/pix/4771088.jpg ... From a notice posted by the SAAC webmaster, January 2012: "...FOR SALE: One matching pair of original metal license plate frames from 'Barberino Pontiac-Datsun' of Wallingford, CT. In an attempt to date these frames a bit, I went on the internet and did a search on 'When did the name change from Datsun to Nissan?', and found this reference: '...1985 was the first year that Nissan no longer carried the name Datsun on vehicles exported to the US market (except for on some leftover parts like radiator caps or pages in manuals). 1985 Began the "The Name is Nissan" campaign. 1984 is the only year you can buy a Datsun 300ZX. After that, it was all officially Nissan...' So, it appears these frames can possibly be appropriate for 1985 or earlier vehicles that came from Barberino in Wallingford. WANTED

From a notice posted by the SAAC webmaster, January 2014: "...WANTED: A decent, usable, matching set of 5.00/5.25x16 tires… I have just started up a new antique wheels restoration project. I was able to acquire three 16” diameter by 3.25” wide English Ford wheels from my old VW friend Tom up in Torrington, CT, over the holidays, since it turns out that this wheel will directly bolt onto a “wide 5” Volkswagen (’67 & earlier Type 1, with the 5-bolt bolting pattern). With those three wheels in hand, I next sent out some feelers for a couple more, to complete a set (and a spare or two is also nice to have), and as this is being written, another old VW friend, Tom from Ohio, got in touch with me and said he had three more. Very cool! I sent funds out to Ohio as quickly as I could, and I am anticipating the other three to show up on my doorstep at some point. From there, I’m planning to do a “low budget, fun restoration” on all of the six wheels at once, starting from sandblasting, and on up from there. I am VERY excited to have another project like this—it’s been too long! Anyway, eventually the wheels will be finished (probably not until some time in the Spring of 2014 at the earliest, since I need decent weather for painting), and my thoughts will turn to TIRES at that point. The 5.00/5.25x16 size will work perfectly on these wheels, so if you have, or know of a set, that may be a little older, but still usable, I’d be interested. I am NOT planning any sort of “severe” driving with them (those who know me know that my VW Beetle driving leans way toward the opposite end of the spectrum), so I am not too worried about used tires in this case, as long as they are fairly decent shape overall, and hopefully match… If you can help, please e-mail me: CommonGear@aol.com ... Thanks!..." (this ad posted 1/22/2014)

From a correspondence dated 4/14/2010: "...Wanted:  Parts for 1954 Ford F-100 pickup. I need 2 wheels, 4 hubcaps and a set of 4 wheel trim rings.
