Broiled Frosting

aka Gravy

8" sq. cake
3 Tblsps butter/oleo
3 Tblsps brown sugar
2 Tblsps cream or evaporated milk
1/2 cup coconut

9 X 12" cake
6 Tblsps butter/oleo
6 Tblsps brown sugar
1/4 cup cream or evaporated milk
1 cup coconut

Optional: Replace part of the coconut with chopped almonds

Mix together in a small saucepan and heat, stirring to melt and mix. Spread on top of cake, still in pan, and broil until it is bubbly all over and looks good enough to eat. This is usually used on a yellow cake but it is similar to the frosting used on German chocolate cakes.
