About Us

George & Janet Silver  in 1992

We are a husband and wife team, both artists, who each enjoy creating in a wide variety of different mediums. We appreciate each other's input during our design process and occasionally collaborate on art projects.

A few years ago we joined "Six Days", an artist co-op gallery located at 2724 NE Alberta St., Portland, OR (503) 280- 6 DAY (6329). Several pieces of our work are on display and sold there now. Six Days represents fifteen - twenty different artists. A great time to come by to check it out is during the Last Thursday Gallery Hop on Alberta Street.

After getting his BS in Psychology George completed three yrs of grad school in counseling at Portland State University. From this experience he learned to write and has a book of short stories in progress.  He creates in clay, fiber, metal and enjoys incorporating 'found' objects into his sculptural pieces. He calls his art dolls his "Ugly Children" creating them out of polymer sculpting medium. He has developed a more affordable version of his characters by attaching just the heads onto the top of bamboo walking sticks - which he calls "Heads on a Stick".

He is an actor, orator, writer and counselor. He has acted in several different plays and some years ago was the warm-up speaker during anti-war protests in both Washington D.C. and San Francisco, CA. as the poet laureate of an extreme faction of Vietnam Vets Against the War.  As a Vietnam veteran who's struggled with PTSD, he has always had a desire to other veterans in any way he could. This has led to our ongoing involvement with PointMan International Ministries - a world wide group of veterans serving veterans and their families.

George created this sculpture "The Wedding Singer" as a wedding gift.

I (Janet) have always been interested in creating, in making things with my hands. I started sewing as a child and took classes or lessons in oil painting, dance, voice, and folk guitar as a young teen. Right out of high school I attended the Portland Art Museum School in Portland, OR. (Now PNCA) and over the years I've taken various art classes at local community colleges. I had the opportunity to study at the Oregon College of Arts & Crafts for a few yrs too. Through these experiences I've developed some skills in ceramics, graphic design, calligraphy, drawing & painting, collage, and web design.

For many years I was involved in helping families with home birthing and I also home schooled my five children for almost a decade. Now I am delighted to spoil my grandchildren when I have the opportunity.

During the holiday season I love to sing/perform with the local Vancouver chapter of  Sweet Adeline's (Columbia River Chorus) and occasionally I get to join other choral groups in the Camas/Washougal, WA. area.

At this time I'm exploring various forms of collaging and surface design to add interest and depth to my work (mostly in fiber arts)
