Like everyone else with email,I get my share of "Nigerian scams" .After I received a recent
scam email I decided to play along to see if I could scam the scammer.
What follows are actual email exchanges between one such scammer and myself.I've copied his emails as is;
I've x-ed out my email address on this page for obvious reasons. Otherwise, what you are reading is accurate.
This is an on-going series and I'll keep this updated when I receive more emails from this particular scammer.I've also recently
changed the format to make it easier to keep track. You can click on the page numbers now. I am the Personal Attorney to Late Engr Ricky Ac Ricardo of who is a National of your country, who used to work with shell Development Company in Nigeria. On the 21st of April 2000, my client, his wife and their only son where involved in a car accident along Sagamu/Lagos Express road. Unfortunately, they all lost their lives in the event of the accident, since then I have made several enquiries to locate any of my clients extended relatives and this has also proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to trace his relatives over the Internet, to locate any member of his family but to no avail, hence I contacted you. I contacted you to assist in repatriating the money and property left behind by my client before they get confiscated or declared unserviceable by the bank where these huge deposits were lodged. Particularly, the Bank where the deceased had an account valued at about 12, million dollars. Consequently, the bank issued me a notice to provide the next of kin or have the account confiscated within a short time. Since I have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives for over some years now, I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased since you share the same surname so that the proceeds of this account valued at US 12, million dollars can be paid to you for both of us to share the money; 50% to me and 45% to you, while 5% should be for expenses or tax as your government may require. I have all necessary legal documents that can be used to back up the claim. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us see this deal through. I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law. First of all, I wish to thank you for accepting my e-mail and granting my request as well. I am also thanking you for your determination, I assure you that with the legal backup documents which will protect your interest in the transaction will be secured here in the court. I have been the family attorney to Late Engr Ricky Ac Ricardo for some years before he died with the entire family. So when the management of the bank called me to inform me to provide the next of kin or they will have no other option than to confiscate this fund through the CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA, I quickly contacted the bank to inform them that I will provide the next of kin to my late client in a short time. Therefore I decided to seek your assistance and co-operation in this matter,as I did not locate any of his direct relation for some time now. Please if I can trust you, I require your contact informations such as: 1) Your full name and contact address. 2) Your private tell numbers for easy communications. 3) Occupation. 4) Age. I will direct you on how we are to actualize this deal and also submit your information to the bank as Late Engr Ricky Ac Ricardo next of kin for the claim. Please note that I will need your total co-operation in this transaction as I am totally committed to ensure that this fund is claimed out of the bank for our joint benefit instead of the bank to confiscate it for their use. Meanwhile, my phone number is +234-80-24535950 and you are free to call me at anytime. I await for your urgent response. I went to intercontinental bank plc this morning to request for the inheritance processing form and also inform them about the process of the inheritance form you sent to them through their mailing address with us$850. I was surprised when the bank told me that you are not serious, how can you send money through post to their address without contacting the bank to advise you on how to send the money. I also I noted from the form I saw in the bank that you are required to forward your identification and also some legal backup documents before the inheritance will be processed on your name. I will advise you to contact the bank to request for the inheritance processing form because the bank is now having doubt over your behavior towards sending money to them through post which they told me it is not possible as the post office will not accept cash for delivery. I wait to hear from you to enable me know what next to do.
