A Dog's Day
Toss a treat to the
wind
That’s how I know that you’re leaving again
What’s the matter, don’t you love me anymore
See you pulling out of the drive
Another day like this I know I won’t survive
Can’t it be like it was just the day before
I lie here with my tail tucked tightly staring at the door
Nudge around the bowl of food
Trolling for vermin and coming unglued
I can sense that soon the rain is gonna fall
A short attention span
Comes in handy when you don’t have a plan
Never noticed that crack was forming on the wall
Cannot even pleasure in my special tennis ball
And if you think of me while you’re away
Remember I’ve never once been tempted to stray
And if there’s something I could do today
to turn you around
I’d climb the steepest hills just to gaze upon you
What about those backyard days
When we were digging up weeds
and fighting off the squirrel raids
Don’t these memories come flooding through your mind
Sitting on the top of the couch
Looking out the window and starting to slouch I
glanced away but when I turned my head around
I see your smiling face and now I’m such a happy hound
And I can cry just a little more
Or I can lie here with my ass on the floor
Until you sail on back onto my shore
I’ll be around
Waiting for your return, just to gaze upon you
