Ministries

Adult Choir

Our music ministry is dedicated to enhancing the celebration of the liturgy through music and song. Becoming musically involved in the parish is a wonderful experience, and a way to share with others your God-given gift of music. The choir sings at the Sunday 11:00 AM Mass and at special liturgical celebrations throughout the year. A spirit of commitment and a love of music are required. If you have natural musical talent and can read music, our choir will be that much more blessed.

Cantors

Cantors lead the congregation in song at the 5:00 PM Saturday Mass, the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass, and at special liturgical celebrations. Auditions are required.

Catechist

Catechists teach Faith Formation classes to the children of the parish from grades 1 - 9. Catechists are stewards who commit their time and talent to the ministry of Religious Education. Their goal is to help guide the children in acquiring knowledge of their faith through the teachings of the Catholic Church and form a life-long love and devotion to God. Training is required and provided by the parish. A commitment on Sundays from September through May is required. Catechists are encouraged to complete the Catechist Accreditation in Religious Education (CARE) program for diocesan certification.

Catechist Assistants / Aides

Catechist Assistants / Aides are needed in the larger classes to assist the Faith Formation Catechists throughout the year. This is an entry-level position in teaching whereby a Catechist can gain practical experience in a classroom setting. Recently confirmed students interested in this position are required to make a one year commitment as an assistant / aide before teaching on their own.

Church Decoration Committee

This committee offers a wonderful opportunity for individuals, couples, families and newcomers to the parish to participate without the commitment of meetings. This ministry is for you whether you're artistically talented or just like to help. Children are welcome to lend a hand in supervised age-appropriate activities. Teens find this an excellent community service project.

Community Ministries

There are many stewardship opportunities within the community such as the American Cancer Society, Catholic Charities, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Meals on Wheels, Open Cupboard Food Pantry, Volunteer Fire Departments, Volunteer First Aid Squads, etc. Parishioners are encouraged to seek them out. Contact information is available in the "blue pages" of the telephone directory.

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion

As Catholic Christians, we are called to have generous lives of prayer and service. One of the ways to serve is by assisting the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion, either during the celebration of the Mass, or by bringing the Eucharist to the homebound. Extraordinary Ministers of Communion should be examples to the members of the parish by living lives of faith and prayer; they should perform this service with reverence and dignity. Training is required and provided. Once trained, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are scheduled into a rotation that allows for flexibility regarding family plans. Candidates for this ministry should be registered parishioners, 18 years old and have received the sacrament of Confirmation. Conservative business attire is recommended.

Facilities Committee

This committee is responsible for the physical facilities of the parish. Members continually review the condition of the grounds and various facilities, including the church, chapel, church hall and rectory. The individuals on this committee are actively involved in changes and the maintenance of buildings, furnishings and equipment. Recommendations are made to the Pastor.

Finance Committee

This committee is a consultative body that reviews the parish finances and provides advice and recommendations to the Pastor concerning the parish's fiscal resources. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting long range financial planning to support the mission of the parish, and suggesting means for raising funds needed to attain parish goals. The Pastor personally selects members.

Gift Bearers

The privilege of carrying the Gifts to the altar during mass is a simple, special, and meaningful way to serve the Lord. Individuals, couples, and families are welcome to participate in this ministry. It requires no training yet is a very spiritual act of stewardship.

Green Thumb Committee

This committee plans and directs the planting and maintenance of the plants, shrubs, and trees around the exterior of the church, chapel, rectory and the Living Memorial Garden. A core of volunteers continually maintains the garden areas by planting, weeding and watering on a flexible basis. This is a great family activity.

Hospitality Committee

Do you know the person sitting next to you in church? Want to chat and enjoy some refreshments with your fellow parishioners? The Hospitality Committee organizes gatherings with donations of baked goods from parishioners willing to share their talents. The committee also sponsors social gatherings as the need arises.

Instrumentalists

Instrumentalists are welcome to accompany the music at the 5:00 PM Saturday Mass, the 9:30 AM or 11:00 AM Sunday Mass, and special liturgical celebrations.

Lectors

Lectors proclaim God's Living Word at Mass and liturgical celebrations. They have a desire to share their love of God's Word. Being a Lector encourages spiritual growth as well as an understanding of the sacredness of Mass. Those interested must be confirmed parishioners. Lectors are scheduled on a rotating basis allowing for flexibility regarding weekend plans. Conservative business attire is recommended.

Lord's Housekeepers

If you would like to help but don't want the commitment of meetings, this ministry may be just for you. Everyone is welcome to perform the duties involved in maintaining the altar and sacristy of the church. Members work in teams to clean the church, chapel and church hall as needed. Less than one hour commitment is required each month.

Men's Cornerstone

The Men's Cornerstone Ministry is committed to building Christian community in the Parish. The Ministry hosts an annual retreat each November, at which interested candidates are invited to join the Ministry for a maximum of two years.

Open Cupboard Food Pantry Support

Parish collections to support the Food Pantry are held the 3rd weekend of each month. This ministry involves bringing non-perishable food to the vestibule of the church for the monthly food collection. Cash donations are an option. This is a great ministry for family participation and for parishioners who have "over committed schedules" and unable to participate in other ministries.

Parish Advisory Board

This is a consultative group with one representative from each parish ministry and organization. This group meets the end of August, October, December and May. This is an information-sharing meeting for each of the parish ministries and organizations so that all may be informed of parish happenings. The parish calendar of events and allocation of parish facilities is accomplished at the meetings.

Prayer Chain

This ministry provides a "telephone chain" of prayer and support for those experiencing health, spiritual, or any life challenge. To place someone on the Prayer Chain, please call the Parish Secretary who will contact the Prayer Chain Captains. The captains will contact the Prayer Stewards who are asked to commit to ten minutes of daily prayer in the privacy of their home or wherever most comfortable. Being a Prayer Steward is an excellent ministry for everyone - individuals, couples, and families.

Respect Life Committee

Members promote involvement in activities to advance the respect-life cause, and provide regular communication on critical life issues in the Church bulletin. Ongoing projects include the Run for Life supporting a Christian Maternity Home and a Crisis Pregnancy Center; a raffle supporting the New Jersey and Hunterdon County Right to Life organizations; participation in the Hunterdon County Life Chain and in the annual March for Life in Washington, DC. A time commitment of two hours a month is asked.

Social Concerns Committee

This committee is committed to its mission of "sharing and caring, whatever and wherever needed." It addresses the social and material needs of the parish and community through various projects such as clothing drives, a baby shower for single mothers and clothing drives. This ministry also provides funeral repast luncheons and disaster relief as needed.

Special Needs Catechist

A Special Needs Catechist is one with a desire to help teach religion to children with special physical or emotional needs. Special Needs Catechists are trained to work with special needs children and their parents on a "one-to-one" basis. Training sessions are held throughout the diocese. The position is on an "as needed" basis. A parent of a child with special needs is asked to contact the Faith Formation office prior to the start of class.

Substitute Catechist

A Substitute Catechist is needed when a Catechist cannot teach his or her class. A Substitute Catechist has the opportunity to experience teaching in different grade levels. This helps the substitute become familiar with the program and gain practical experience before teaching on his or her own. The Faith Formation office will contact substitutes as needed.

Stewardship Committee

This committee promotes stewardship as a way of life within all aspects of the parish community. Members are spiritually motivated, able to share insights and collaborate with others; are comfortable talking about stewardship and are willing to encourage others to participate in parish activities. Training is provided through diocesan courses and workshops. Members are appointed by the committee and pastor. A three-year commitment is desired.

Women's Cornerstone

The Women's Cornerstone Ministry is committed to building Christian community in the Parish. The Ministry hosts an annual retreat each Feburary, at which interested candidates are invited to join the Ministry for a maximum of two years.

Youth Choir

This ministry is dedicated to enhancing Children's Liturgies through music. It provides a wonderful experience for the children to share with others their God-given gifts of music. It also provides experience for them to join the adult choir later. Requirements: members must be able to read; good behavior and attendance at rehearsals are required.

Youth Ministry

This ministry offers the youth of our Parish (grades 7 -12) the opportunity to continue their faith journey through social interaction, service to the parish, and spiritual reflection. During the months of September to June, members serve at Mass the 3rd Saturday of the month, with a meeting afterwards. Participation is open to all age-appropriate registered youth of the parish. This is an opportunity for interested adults to work with the older youth of the parish.
