China is our 6-year-old female Pug. When she was about a year old, we had acquired a pregnant Miniature Pinscher. When her puppies were born, China was very fascinated with them. When we would take the mama out for a potty, China would jump in the box and care for the babies. She took it as far as trying to steal the babies.
She has had a couple litters of puppies of her own, (which we still own 3) and even took on extra puppies once.
One time, the barn cat had kittens. You guessed it, China commandeered the kittens and wouldn't let the mother cat near them!
So, it was bound to happen, that when we had a baby Pygmy goat born that needed extra care, China would adopt it. When I brought it in, all of the Pugs were quite fascinated. Then it happened, China's mothering instinct went into overdrive and woe Is be to anyone, who even glanced at that baby! If the goat cries whom ever is close by, takes it in the shorts!
She cleans it, cuddles with it and protects it. Of course, the poor goat baby now thinks it's a Pug!
Here is a picture of China and her goat daughter.
