WKHS SHOW DESCRIPTIONS
SUNDAYS
Dick Lillard edition of "Thrill of the Night" (8pm-midnight)
A re-creation, if you will, of the dramatic shift in America's musical tastes in the 15 years following World War II. As the war ended, Mom, Dad, and the kids listened to the same music. By 1960, all of that had changed. A "new" music had come in the door and was never going to leave. It was a slowly evolving mix of jump blues, doo wop, down home blues, jazz, and even a little hillbilly music that suddenly burst onto the scene in 1955 under the nom de plume: "Rock and Roll"!! From 8pm until midnight each Sunday, Lillard crams the playlist with piledriving blues shouters, ethereal vocal groups, screaming tenor saxes, slap back basses, adventurous jazz artists, and yes, even the occasional sophisticated pop singer, as he gives you a taste of how it all sounded on all those AM radio stations whoe signals were usually found way up on the right side of the dial. 1st generation Rock and Roll.
NITE-AL edition of "Thrill of the Night" (8pm-midnight)
My strongest interest in rock and roll begins sometime during 1957, at the birth of its second generation. Something magical happened- it became infused with melody, mischief, teenage romance and angst. Gone, but not completely forgotten, were the fiercer, blusier, and harsher sounds of first generation rock and roll. It became the music of my generation and grew with us into the 1960's and 1970's. The 1960's brought an invasion of music from the Continent to our shores. The politics of social change and protest entered rock and roll during the 1960's. I play any music that has the sound from these periods. During the show, I try not to put collectors' labels on the songs, but I were to do so, I would say that I play rockabilly, rock and roll, teeners, single artists, doo wop (especially the NY sound), Motown, many varieties of soul, British Invasion, East and West Coast beach music, psychedelic, folk and garage. Some of this music is sung in French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Much is rare and new to broadcast. Some, of course, is very familiar. But, all have the sound from this great era. Today, when this music is almost impossible to find on an AM or FM dial, please enjoy all of these great sounds as they come from your home and car radios. Email-niteal007@aol.com

"Southern Star Country Club" 8-10pm
with Mike Martinez
I've been playing the very best that country music had and has to offer since 1991. While I favor certain artists, there isn't an artist that I won't play. There's room for everyone on my show. What big time radio doesn't realize is that some artists recorded more than one song. I don't play the same song over and over. I play some artists that you might have forgotten, never heard of, and one's that may take you back. I sprinkle in classic stars from the past because if it wasn't for them, there wouldn't be any present. I showcase country music and artists from Yesteryear, This Year, and Next Year.
