Race Day Essential

Crew Instructions

Crews and families are welcome to check with their runner throughout the race at designated aid stations. Driving Directions to those aid stations are given below. However, be aware that parking is limited at the aid stations and might be sparse if the weather is good. We do use the same parks and facilities as the general public. Parking is on first-come-first-serve basis. Don't be surprised if your runner is just running through the aid stations barely giving you the attention you deserve. After all it's only a 50k and most of the entrants do see it as a friendly competition.
Sorry, due to the shortness of the race we do not allow pacing. If you have reasons that would require a companion, please, check with the RDs before race day. Sorry, absolutely no dogs on the trails (running with the entrant - the East Bay Regional Parks allow dogs).
Crews and families you are welcome at the race's post-race-bbq, to eat and drink, and to celebrate our heros (this is everyone who went out). Since we are on a tight budget, we would appreciate donations for the food consumed by non-runners.

To the start at Lake Chabot Marina:

Start to Bort Meadow:  Proceed southeast on Lake Chabot Road (left out of parking lot).  Turn left at the first stoplight onto Seven Hills Road.  After (you guessed it!) seven hills, turn left at the stoplight onto Redwood road.  Proceed north on Redwood Road past the Marciel Staging Area to the Bort Meadow Staging Area (on the left).

Bort Meadow to Big Bear (Redwood Road Crossing):  Proceed north on Redwood Road (left out of parking lot).  Stay left at intersection with Pinehurst, and continue past the Redwood Park entrance (on the right) to the MacDonald Staging Area (on the left).  Please park in the MacDonald Gate Staging Area parking lot, and walk ~0.25 miles northwest along the Big Bear Trail to the aid station.

Big Bear to Skyline Gate:  Continue northwest on Redwood Road (left out of the parking lot).  At the top of the hill, turn right at the stoplight onto Skyline Blvd.  Turn right at the next light (intersection with Joaquin Miller Rd.) to remain on Skyline Blvd. Continue north to the Skyline Gate parking lot (on the right).

Skyline Gate to Big Bear (Redwood Road Crossing):  Turn left out of the Skyline Gate parking lot and travel southeast on Skyline Blvd.  Turn left at light at the intersection with Joaquin Miller Rd. to remain on Skyline Blvd. Turn left onto Redwood Rd. at the next light.  Proceed down the hill 1/4 mile past the Big Bear aid station and park in the MacDonald Gate Staging Area parking lot (on the right).  Walk 0.25 miles northwest along the Big Bear trail to the aid station.

Big Bear to Bort Meadow:  Turn right out of the parking lot, and proceed southeast on Redwood Rd.  Stay right at the intersection with Pinehurst to remain on Redwood Rd.  Continue to the Bort Meadow Staging Area on the right.

Bort Meadow to the Finish:  Turn right out of the parking lot, and continue southeast on Redwood road.  Turn right at the first light onto Seven Hills Road.  After the seventh hill, turn right at the light/stop sign onto Lake Chabot Rd.  It is about 1/4 mile to the Lake Chabot Marina entrance.
