MADRE SELVA        MADRE SELVA       MADRE SELVA      MADRE SELVA       MADRE SELVA

Madre Selva is the biological station we stayed at during the week.  Located on an Amazon tributary, Madre Selva offered such activities as hiking, kayaking through the flooded forest, fishing, or just hanging out.

The Photo Hut I The Raft The Sleeping Suites
Inside this screened building is where we took many of our photos.  The screen helped make the room escape proof for our more active subjects! The raft was where the local villagers came for medical and dental treatment, administered by a doctor and dentist who hitched a ride with us.  They were very popular! We stayed on cots inside these tents, which themselves were inside a screened building that helped keep the mosquitos at bay.   Most of the time.

The Green Room The Burbs The Photo Hut II
We kept our photo subjects on this table while they awaited their turn in front of the camera.  This table was completely covered with bags at one point. Furthest away were these open-air platforms on which there were tents for the researchers and a few of the more daring members of our group. The exterior of our photography building.

The Boats The Yard Crew and Mess Hall
A shot of the docked Tucanare, our main vessel, and the Mai Tai Express, a smaller motorized boat we used to access some of the smaller, local waterways. Some of the open space available at Madre Selva.   We would use this area for some of our photography. Here is our hard working crew taking a break in front of the kitchen and dining hall.
