PARTICIPATION/MEMBERSHIP
All teams must register with the president of the SMCML and have at least
one designated coach.
Teams are clustered into divisions based upon proximity.
Meets this year will be Oct 17, Nov 28, Jan 9,
Feb 13 and March 12.
TEAM CONFIGURATION
Participating schools may field as many teams of five students as they
want
but only the score of the highest scoring team will count.
Each
team contains a maximum of two
seniors and a minimum of one
sophomore or freshman.
Three students per team from each school participate in each round and
each
student participates in three rounds.
All team members participate in the Team Round.
HOST SITES
The
Cape
and South Divisions’ host sites have been chosen and the North
Division’s host site has been determined for the first meet, but the coaches
from the North Division need to choose
host sites for the other 3 meets
and report these to the league president.

TOPICS/ROUNDS
Round 1: Arithmetic
Round 2: Algebra I
Round 3: Geometry
Round 4: Algebra II

SCORING
Each individual round contains 3 questions worth 1, 2 and 3 points
respectively.
Team round questions are worth 2, 3
and 5 points.
Ten minutes for each round.
Answers should be scored according to the “Scoring Guidelines.”
Discrepancies will be handled, whenever possible, via e-mail between
the 3 divisions. When this is not
possible, the 3 commissioners will
discuss the issue after the meet and make any necessary score changes
to ensure consistency among the divisions. Only the highest scoring team
from a school will have its score counted
toward the team score; however, students on alternate teams will have
their scores counted for the purpose of
determining the All Star Team.
CALCULATORS
No calculators on the 5 individual rounds.
All calculators approved for the SAT will be allowed on the team round.
SNOW DAYS
The host school coach has the responsibility of contacting the other
coaches.
If any school within a division cancels school or dismissed early, that
Division will have its meet on the following Wednesday.
DIVISION WINNERS
: This is determined by the total score of the four regular season meets.
PLAYOFF PARTICIPANTS
The top scoring 8 teams and ties in the SMCML after the first four meets
will
participate in the playoffs. Points
for the playoff meet will count DOUBLE
for the purpose of selecting the four schools to compete in the State Meet.
LEAGUE WINNER
: The top scoring team in the SMCML after the playoffs.
MAML: STATE INVITATIONAL MATH TEAM COMPETITION
SMCML is allocated the following slots: large schools, 1; medium
schools, 2. and small schools, 1.
Playoff standings will determine all slots.
Smaller schools MAY opt to move up to a higher division.
The SMCML president will notify participants and the MAML director
will provide information concerning this meet.
Individual schools are
responsible for their school’s participation fees.

ASSOCIATION OF MATH LEAGUES TEAM COMPETITION
The SMCML league winner is automatically invited to participate in this
Competition. Individual schools are
responsible for their school’s
Participation fees.
Other participants are determined at the State Meet.

, League All Star certificates for the top scoring four seniors, four juniors and
two underclassmen in the SMCML after 4 meets.

MATHLETE OF THE YEAR
The coaches at the playoffs will make written nominations and vote on the
selection. Selection will be based
on such characteristics as: League awards,
SAT scores, State Olympiad ranking, AMC ranking, AIME results, NEAML
rankings, etc. The student selected
will receive $100 from the SMCML.
LEAGUE DUES
An annual fee of $100 will be assessed each school in the league payable
By Nov 1 of the school year. This
will cover such items as contest writing,
Supplies, postage, awards, MAML and NEAML
fees, etc.
