I am somewhat loathe to use possessive pronouns when describing Sandra. To some she may be my wife, my best friend, my life's companion, but to me she is a free spirit who does not belong to me. She is not one that I can compel, but she is in my life because she chooses to grace it with her companionship and love.
I remember once after we decided to get married, that I started telling her about some of the places that I wanted to take her. She told me in no uncertain terms that she would not be taking vacations with me, that she would be taking vacations on her own. I was a bit taken aback, but Sandra has always been one to stake out her own territory and not let others encroach without her permission.
Despite her desire for independence, Sandra has usually been right there beside me when I trek off into the mountains, or visit a new location. To her everlasting credit, she often does things that are not high on her to do list, just so we can be together and share the experience.

This may be hard to believe, but the very first time I saw Sandra, through the window of her office, I knew that we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. Sometimes, I try with my camera to show Sandra as I see her, but that is so hard to do. She has always had the special magic in my heart that can not be transferred onto film or painted onto a canvas. |
I've taken some very sexy photographs of Sandra over the years, but she let me know that she would kill me if I put most of them on my website, even though none of them really show anything that you wouldn't see at the beach. This is probably the only sexy photo of her that I can get away with. Don't be surprised if this one disappears.
I temporarily lost Sandra as a backpacking partner back in February of 2001. We were on the second day of a hike on the Black Creek Trail and going up a slight grade when Sandra came toe to head with a Mississippi Rattlesnake. After retreating to the opposite side of the trail, and getting a large oak tree between her and the Rattler, she scrambled to the top of the hill and announced her immediate retirement from the backpacking/camping sisterhood. I was somewhat less impressed by this encounter since I have the full expectation to encounter some somewhat disagreeable inhabitants of the woods from time to time.
Her retirement proved to be of only 15 months duration as she accompanied me on a trek into the Sipsey Wilderness in May of 2002.
