"Days of the Outlaws"
The 2008 NCOWS National Shoot

Some of our friends with the Johnson County Rangers, Jim and Celeste Mullins, took several pictures at the "Days of the Outlaws" that they have shared with us. The pictures are posted in a gallery in a lower resolutions to keep downloading times down. Under each picture is a link to the high resolution version of that picture for those that interested. Pictures of the GAF Flag Ceremony and the Main Match are on Page 1. Group Photos and pictures of some of the Award Presentations are posted on Page 2. Also on the Results Page we have our posse members standings from the 2008 NCOWS National Shoot.

Also, Ottawa Creek Bill has put together a sample video of the National Shoot. The full video on DVD will be an hour long. Bill will be selling them for $10 each with a donation going to NCOWS for each sale. Click here to view the sample video. Bill also has some footage of the SMVS Spring Shoots posted. This video is about 23 minutes long.

INAUGURAL SHOOT

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007, was our inaugural shoot. Following the Safety Talk at 9 am, the Main Match was held on three stages. After the Main Match there was a lunch break which featured a huge (and delicious) pot of chili made by Patricia Proctor. After lunch the shooters took part in a woods walk to test their hunting skills. Following the woodswalk some of the shooters adjourned to upper range for a little long range plinking at a buffalo silhouette place at about 350 yards.

We held our May Shoot on the 24th. We have posted the scores on the Results Page.

History of the Scarlet Mask Society

On October 6, 1866, the Reno Brothers, Frank, John, William, and Simeon, made history when they committed the world's first known peacetime train robbery. Over the next two years the Reno Brothers and their gang terrorized Indiana and the Midwest as far West as Iowa, and Missouri, where John Reno was captured by Pinkertons and imprisoned for 25 years.

To counter the Reno's reign of terror the citizens of Jackson County formed the Jackson County Vigilance Committee, which was also known as the Scarlet Mask Society because of the long red bandannas they wore. Between March of 1867, and the night of December 11-12, 1868, when they marched on the New Albany jail and hung three Reno Brothers and two of their gang members, the Scarlet Mask Society delivered on their promised of "a short shift and a hempen collar" to 13 members of the Reno Gang.
