The Scarlet Mask Vigilance Society (SMVS) held a meeting
at Thunder Creek Range on August 25, 2007, to introduce potential members to the
benefits of paying Thunder Creek for use of the property for monthly shoots.
In attendance were: Bill Proctor, Tony Hollandsworth, Dave Hollandsworth, Pat
Proctor, William Proctor, John Liford, Steve Coop, Larry Gardner, Robert
Browning, Harold Genier, Kenny Miller, and Don Layton.
Dave and Tony Hollandsworth said that they are working on targets and several
have been delivered to Bill Proctor’s house. They will stack the targets on
skids at Thunder Creek at the end of each shooting match.
Dave said they would clear up the lower part of the range, removing brush and
small trees.
Bill Proctor said he would use the tractor to level a walkway for people with
handicaps. The property is heavily wooded, with a small creek running through
the bottom range. Photos of the range are available on the Great Lakes Freight
and Mining Company website at
http://greatlakesfmc.home.insightbb.com/scarlet.htm, along with a
description of the Scarlet Mask Vigilance Society.
A woods walk will be set up at the lower range. The upper range will be used for
primitive camping and long distance target shoots. Modern campers must use the
lower range. Modern campers include RVs, Pop-ups, and modern tents. There is no
water supply other than the bottled water that will be provided for drinking.
Period correct clothing and accoutrements are required. There are no modern
facilities at this rifle range.
Tony said he would provide an ATV for transporting people and material to the
upper range.
Bill asked everyone to introduce themselves. Most of the attendees know each
other by the NCOWS names.
SCARLET MASK DOCUMENTATION Provided By Larry Gardner
Bill then introduced Larry Gardner and asked him to explain the information
behind the Scarlet Mask Vigilance Society. Larry and Bill had discussed forming
a posse some time ago, and Larry came up with the name and documentation
(attached). Larry also found a Latin motto appropriate for the posse. We Will
share the motto at the next meeting or on all future correspondence.
OFFICERS
Bill asked for volunteers to stand in for officer positions until it is decided
when and how to handle general elections. Several of the attendees paid for
membership at the meeting and we plan to collect additional membership fees at
the first shoot, which is scheduled to be held on September 22, 2007.
