About The Farm

The Farm is an 80-acre wooded site on Lake Wampanoag in Gardner, Massachusetts. The land is owned by the Monadnock Trust and currently used exclusively by the Southern New England District of Royal Rangers. Several structures enhance the property including a Barn, sound booth, and storage building. SNED chartered outposts are allocated a campsite that they can use throughout the year. Certain fees and restrictions apply.

The Farm is governed by the Trustees but adminstered on behalf of Royal Rangers by the District Commander and his staff.

Our goal is to ensure that the vision of the Trust is upheld. We desire to maintain a primitive-style camping experience for our boys. Campsite improvements must be rustic in appearance wherever possible. Safety of our Rangers is always our highest concern. If you have questions about improvements to your campsite, please contact the District Commander before you make any changes.

Basic Rules of the Road

  • Cut only saplings or dead trees!
  • Use of tent platforms is encouraged to allow use of rocky or uneven ground.
  • No permanent buildings allowed in the campsites.
  • Archways are fine but stick to natural materials.
  • Fences are discouraged except as small extensions to the archway. Stick with natural materials.
  • Remember, we are guests at the Farm. You may be asked to remove certain "improvements".

Camping at the Farm

Your outpost or section is encouraged to visit the Farm for a day hike or a weekend campout. Health laws require all campers to use the porta-potties located in each section. To cover the cost of cleaning these units we require a fee of $50 per group (outpost or section) per unit that we open up. If you are planning a day trip or overnight stay, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Make sure the date is available by checking the district calendar.

  2. Contact the District Commander a few weeks in advance.

  3. Send a check for $50 payable to Royal Rangers. Use of the Barn or other facilities may affect the fee schedule.

Access to the Farm

The Farm now has two gates designed to bar unauthorized access to the property. We realize that this may cause some inconvenience to authorized Royal Ranger groups but we and the Monadnock Trust wish to keep the property more secure. To enter the property, please call the District Commander to make arrangements.
