ICLS GAME RESULTS / 2007

Fox Chase 2      UM Lazers 2

The U10 boys Lazers began the 2007 season on the road with a spectacular effort and total team play.  Despite falling behind after taking an early lead on a Jacob Winter goal with the helper from Kenny Mitchell, the Lazers continued to pressure the Fox Chase squad and evened the score on a cross trapped by Jacob Winter and sent to the twine by Dan Cowden late in the second half.  Tremendous defense was provided throughout the game by the mid-field efforts of Matt Benner and Michael Villar. Splitting the duties between the pipes, Joey Patterson and Jonathan Reilly secured the draw.

Upper Moreland Lazers - 7    Pennridge Sting - 0

In a stellar team defensive effort, the Upper Moreland Lazers thwarted every offensive threat generated by the Pennridge Sting to earn the teams first shutout with a score of 7-0.  Defensive play was anchored and controlled by Kenny Mitchell, Matthew Benner and Michael Villar. What turned out to be the game winner in the match was a strong cross from Daniel Cowden to the foot of Jacob Winter for the first of his three midway through the first half.  Strong corners from Eric LeFevre offered many opportunities to the forward players. Additional tallies were notched by Matt Fritz, George Balot, Matt Benner and Dan Cowden, with assists going to Devon Pickard, Trevor Hirsch and Michael Villar on the pitch. Strong passing and position play kept the Lazers on the attack for most of the match showing total team play and effort.

Upper Moreland Lazers : 2  Harleysville Hurricanes : 8

The Lazers lost their first game of the year on Saturday despite brilliant wing play by Chris Johnston and Eric LeFevre with Colin Bennett working the middle with conviction. Despite being down 4 - nil at half the boys clawed their way back with two early goals in the second half keeping the ball wide and working to the middle.  In the effort to even the score, the defensive squad was called to task to help with the offensive thrust leaving the keeper to provide the best effort possible alone. Unfortunately the coaching gamble did not bring the wanted results. The Lazers hope to rebound on Sunday and put the loss behind them.

Upper Moreland Lazers : 2  Upper Dublin FC Black : 4

The U10 Upper Moreland Lazers put Saturdays loss behind them and went out on Sunday to earn a well played loss 2 - 4 against Upper Dublin. Once again the Lazers' keeper tandem of  Joey Patterson and Jonathan Reilly were up to the task and the defense showed what it is capable of, with well played coverage in close and completing the critical outside clearing passes.
Lazers scoring was generated by a defensive clearing pass from Michael Villar that Jacob Winters took in stride to beat two defenders and then the keeper to even the score at one early in the second half.  A follow up shot by Eric LeFevre of his own post clanger gave the Lazers a brief lead midway in the session.  Despite the loss, the result was generated by a total team effort with all players providing the position play that asked of them.  In an offensive match-up that was constantly being modified throughout the course of the match, Colin Bennett, George Balot, Matt Fritz, Devon Pickard, Chris Johnston and Trevor Hirsch all played a critical role with filling needs on the pitch, even when it was not their primary slot.

A coaches "well done" to the entire Lazers' squad for the fine effort on the match.

Upper Moreland Lazers : 0    Plymouth Gladiators : 4

The Upper Moreland Lazers regrouped and recaptured some of their early season defensive play in the second half of a match against Plymouth that could have gone in the win column. A few lapses in the normally aggressive defensive play allowed Plymouth to slip through early in the contest.  Strong offensive challenges by Colin Bennett, Jacob Winter and Dan Cowden along with Eric LeFevre, Devon Pickard and Chris Johnston working the ball well on the outside added to the attack but came up short.

Jack Walsh Memorial Tournament

Upper Moreland Lazers (U-10 Boys) take Second

The Upper Moreland Lazers enjoyed a fabulous weekend of soccer at the Hunter sponsored Jack Walsh Memorial Tournament. Wonderful defensive play by Kenny Mitchell, Michel Villar and Matt Benner, along with the amazing keeper show put on by Joey Patterson, recording a shut-out in the second game, got the boys off to a strong start, and kept the momentum going. Despite scoring just five goals, Eric LeFevre, Jacob Winter and Dan Cowden along with the supporting offensive thrust of Matt Fritz, Colin Bennett, Devon Pickard and George Balot continued to create many opportunities that were just out of reach or collected by the opposing keeper.  Chris Johnston, Trevor Hirsch and Jonathan Reilley continued to fill the middle and create chances and prevent attacks throughout the events 4 games.

Upper Moreland Lazers : 1 -  Upper Dublin FC Black : 1

The Lazers showed today what total team effort  can achieve with a bit of patience and dedication and trust in the coaching staff.  Coming out in a 1-2-4 formation, the boys took advantage of fantastic defensive play by Dan Cowden in his first start as the lone fullback, along with Jacob Winters and Michael Villar in the Mid slots.  Jonathan Reilley manning the twine for the entire contest came as close to a shutout as is possible. Near the end of the final session, a controversial goal via a hand pass inside the 18 spoiled the shutout.  Playing in the forward positions, Kenny Mitchell, Matt Fritz, Matt Benner, Chris Johnston, Devon Pickard, Joey Patterson, Eric LeFevre and Trevor Hirsch all participated in attack soccer as well as returning to support the defense when needed. The Lazers were disappointed with the tie with victory so close, but know that they can not control all facets of the game.

Upper Moreland Lazers : 1 -  Fox Chase : 1

With Jacob Winter locked up the entire contest against FC’s strongest player and Michael Villar directing the midfield, it appeared that the direct kick score by Matt Benner was going to be enough to put this one in the win column.  After Devon Pickard put his body on the line defending a similar situation for FC late in the contest a late miscue on the defensive side allowed the lone goal allowed by Joey Patterson.  Several late rushes and crossing passes by Eric LeFevre from the left side couldn’t connect with the back of the net. The UM Lazers continue to improve in every situation faced during the game and it is starting to show in the team play and effort on the pitch from the entire squad.
