Home invasion, secret government Robot project?

My house is being invaded with millipedes. We clean them out all day long. There are tons late at night and early in the morning (a couple of times there have been over 100 of them). I don't like to kill, so I tend to carry them out. While catching them I have noticed a few things about their behavior. If you place a piece of paper in front of them they usually do 1 of 3 things. #1 they stop, back up a little, turn about 90 degrees and start going again, then if you put the paper in front of them again they just walk up it. #2 they just barrel right up onto it. #3 they stop and smell for a few seconds (or however they sense stuff), and then decide to go the other way. The most interesting thing is the 90 degree turn behavior which is like a simple avoidance program that would be used when programming simple robots. I hope they get tired of breaking in, it is really tiring carrying them out.
